Hi, I'm new to the game and have a couple of questions that I couldn't find the answers to.

1. Do players only gain skill if they are trained? Or by just playing games do they get better randomly?
2. What's the deal with game shape? What does it do, and how do I make it better? I've read that playing a player about 60 minutes will increase game shape, is this true? And is it worth it if ideally a player should play 48 minutes?
3. How much does a new player like myself start out with and do I gain any money as time goes because I'm new? I seemingly have $300,000 in my economy but everytime I bid on something it says I'll be in the negatives so I'm not sure. Also, I read that for 6 weeks I'll get 50,000 each week. Is this true?
4. Any advice for a new player like myself? I've read all the rules and I'm familiar with most of the mechanics of the game (or at least all I can be without experience). What should I do?

1) only by training
2) it's like shape in RL. If I remember exactly, 60-70mins per week makes the shape good.
3) You have 300k to start with. Better buy a lvl4 trainer first, and think about what kind of players to train, and then sell and buy accordingly to that plan..
4) Long term planning and learning, do not do anything too hasty. Ask and read rules plenty.

Just thought I'd jump in and add a couple of things.

1. Playing 48 minutes in a week at a trained position gets a player optimum training. More minutes don't equal more training, but fewer minutes equate to significantly less training (though nobody knows the exact % drop).
2. Game Shape is not something you should worry too much about for now. Guys who you're training will be in the 48+ minutes range, and just try to distribute minutes for the non-trainee players equally enough that you don't have some with 90+ and some with 0, since those will both result in drops.

Beyond that, I'd say your first move should be, as the previous post said, to buy a higher level trainer and figure out who you're going to train. Ideally, you want 18-19 year old players with at least starter potential for long term training. And you're going to want to decide if you're training inside or outside players. At the moment, your best trainee looks like Bernstein - he has low potential, but good height and a decent starting salary (though only you can see whether he's got decent skills) so maybe you should invest in a couple more big guys and train inside.

Anyway, this is a long post, so I'll stop now. Though if you want any advice, feel free to BB-Mail me.

Also, your name is awesome

Thanks for the helpful replies :)

Another question, how should I go about setting up my first scrimmage game? Do I challenge a bunch of people and hope one accepts? How am I supposed to know if they're even active? And where would I go (beyond my league) to find other teams to challenge to a scrimmage game?

Also, do most experienced players have a "scrimmage partner" who they normally just play with every week so they don't have to search for somebody else?

Thanks

You can post in the Scrimmage Ad thread that you're looking for a scrimmage, or you can go around challenging a bunch of people and hope that one accepts. You're allowed to have up to 15 scrimmage offers open at a time.

I don't know about scrimmage partners... a lot of supporters (myself included) try to collect as many flags as possible and schedule scrimmages with someone from a different country each week. But if you ask around, you can probably find a scrimmage partner. Try posting in the Scrimmage Ad thread or in your league's forum, if there are other active users in your league.

(103510.1) the scrimmage ad thread, Iron mentioned i would use him this week because you don't have much time to arrange it and many team you challenge blind won't play scrimmages.

There is every week a new one, in the global english forum so look around a red thread in the top to find the actual one(which starts on saturday)

Yeah, but you can't offer scrimmages until 10:00 P.M. EST.
