http://www.dowce.com/~2X1^ Screenshot I saved a couple of weeks ago of Radford's final skills when he was forced into retirement. I can't imagine these being too far off his skills in Season 15, being his last full season in the ABBL because rentals rarely get trained at all. Notice the Respectable Jump Shot and Inept Jump Range.
So how come he managed 19-38 three point shooting in season 15?
Razorsharp giving me supporter gave me access to the play-by-play, which allowed me to use BB game analyser, made by moutlinho and a great program for guys who love breaking down game stats like myself (and good to see your players strong and weak points better with too). So I ran all 22 of his season 15 games through the analyser. Before seeing the results for myself, I figured that surely Radford only knocked down this many threes despite being a center because most of those shot attempts were wide open?
Wrong! These results will probably shock some people. I've broken it down into: Field goal percentage from that section of the floor (shot type for inside shots), and how many of those were over the defence compared to open, wherein open means the shot attempt was assisted. Bolded text means it was a hot spot for him whilst Italics indicate a cold spot in comparision.
Three Point Shots:
3p from straight-on: 4-13 (30.8%), 12 defended vs 1 open (92.3%)
3p from the corner: 7-8 (87.5%), 6 defended vs 2 open (75%)3p from the wing: 7-13 (53.8%), 10 defended vs 3 open (76.9%)Long three pointer: 1-3 (33.3%), 3 defended (100%)
Half-court shot: 0-1, defended
All three point shots: 19-38 (50.0%), 32 defended vs 6 open (84.2%)Mid Range Shots:
Jumper from the baseline: 3-21 (14.3%), 13 defended vs 8 open (61.9%)Jumper from the foul line: 13-28 (46.4%), 18 defended vs 10 open (64.3%)
Jumper from the top of the key: 8-16 (50.0%), 11 defended vs 5 open (68.7%)
Jumper from the wing: 3-13 (23.1%), 8 defended vs 5 open (61.5%)All mid range shots: 27-78 (34.6%), 50 defended vs 28 open (64.1%)Close/Inside Shots:
Driving layup: 13-19 (68.4%), 7 defended vs 12 open (36.8%)
Dunk: 44-47 (93.6%), 6 defended vs 41 open (12.8%)Fadeaways + Hooks: 26-54 (48.1%), 54 defended (100%)
Layup: 1-3 (33.3%), 1 defended vs 2 open (33.3%)Tip-in: 25-42 (59.5%), 42 defended (100%)
Tough inside shot: 22-59 (37.3%), 29 defended vs 30 open (49.2%)All close/inside shots: 131-224 (58.5%), 139 defended vs 85 open (62.1%)
As a side note, Radford shot 98/222 over defence (44.1%), and 79/119 when open (66.4%).
The more I look at his season 15 shot chart up close, the more I think to myself WTF. He was making a higher percentage of 3 point attempts than tough inside shots for instance, and a larger ratio of those 3 pointers were over a defender too. And I know the players he would've played against were crummy at outside defence (being centers), but surely BB is stretching it to have Radford not only shoot 19-38 in this season, but 15-33 the season before that! Radford wasn't even a good shooter on paper, which I think showed in his mid-range game. But once he stepped out to the line, he became frickin Ray Allen.
Your thoughts?
