Evacitas, Heyrosa lead the way as PH U21 dismantled UAE

The Philippines U21 totally obliterated UAE, 81-130 to kick-off their campaign at the National Team Round Robin in China.

The Philippines dominated UAE from the get-go, 22-34 in the first quarter.

The second quarter's a different story, the Filipinos totally destroyed UAE's defense and offense,13-37 to have a 35-71 lead, and had a mini-scare during the 3rd quarter, but the Philippines quickly answered with baskets and defense.

Even in the garbage time, the bench still destroyed UAE, especially in the 4th qtr, 23-36 to settle the final score of 81-130.

The keys to the game were the assists-to-turnover ratio. The Philippines had 28:5, while UAE had 14:24. UAE dominated the Philippines in rebounding, 56-38, with UAE getting 24 offensive rebounds due to the Full Court Press defense of the Philippines. Another key stat is the 3 point shooting, the Philippines shot 55% (11-20), while UAE shot only 22% (2-9).

The Philippines also outscored UAE's bench, 6-51. Even the bench could actually beat the UAE side! :D

On an interview Coach Fabio Menta said, "This is a great win for us! We're still adjusting to one another, but this is a welcome sight for me. I said to my team that we need to give pressure to the UAE team so that we would feel each other in terms of what to adjust on and so that we could have our energy going from the get-go. This team is special, and potentially be better than they are right now with proper training."

Evacitas had 25 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, a steal, and a block in 28 minutes of playing time. He lead the Philippine squad, with 6 others scoring in double-digits. He also posted a rating of 15.0, the highest among both teams! Heyrosa helped Evacitas with 22 points, 5 assists, 2 blocks, on 8-12 shooting in 29 minutes.

Cinco came off the bench with 18 points on 7-7 shooting, with 4 assists.

Coach Fabio Menta used Push The Ball - Full Court Press strategy to give his players an energetic start to the campaign against UAE's Look Inside-Man to Man approach.

Credits to UAE's Power Forward Absalom El-Osman with 25 points and 18 rebounds, 11 on the offensive rebounding end, and Point Guard Hamdan Abed-Yaseen, who scored 20 points on 9-18 shooting with 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

UAE (81) - El-Osman 25, Abed-Yaseen 20, Isam 15, Abu-Najjar 8 , Abu-Saleh 7, Sleiman 5, Al-Akram 1, Pero 0, Al-Sulayman 0, Hasan 0

Philippines (130) - Evacitas 25, Heyrosa 22, Cinco 18, Miranda 16, Martinez Naranjo 14, Tuliva 10, Celebria 10, Ygnacio 8, Tarroza 3, Mabaquiao 2, Vidal 2, Eribal 0

Quarter scores: 22-34, 35-71, 58-94, 81-130

The player of the game is DAVEY EVACITAS from team Flug Feld (35119) from Deutschland, lead by manager Motion!
On a quick interview, Evacitas said, "This team's going to be good. When we get it going , we're hard to stop and credits to my coach/GM Motion! He did everything for me to improve and thanks to him I got an invitation to join the Philippines U21 squad, and without any hesitation I accepted! Thank you to Coach Fabio Menta as well for giving me the trust to start this game."

Pilipinas U21 takes advantage of SK U21's poor shooting, 94-117

The Pilipinas U21 team assured its dominance this season once again by taking advantage of South Korea's horrid three point shooting, 94.117, last December 30, 2019, days before New Year started.

It was a horrible shooting from deep for both teams, actually, but the Philippines made more and had better percentage than the Hanguks. The SKs shot 3 of 25, while the Philippines shot 6 of 23 from downtown.

The Philippines used Push The Ball and 3-2 zone, which made the life of the South Koreans difficult, while the SKs used Run and Gun-Man to Man approach, wherein the 3-2 zone took its toll on the Hanguks, forcing them to take contested threes throughout the contest. Despite the 3-2 zone, the Pinoys still outrebounded them, 45-54 and had more assists, 16-27, but shot 11-24 from the line.

On an interview, Coach Fabio Menta said, "Our defense tonight is good. Knowing that Hanguk U21 will use Run and Gun offense, and they have some of the best shooters I've seen, I told my team to contest those threes everytime. Every three they make, there will be 10 ROUNDS OF LUSOT. They made 3 , therefore my boys will have 30 ROUNDS OF LUSOT.

The Philippines outscored Hanguk, 13-21 to start the quarter, and the defense really showed for the Pinoys.

Hanguk took over the 2nd qtr, 29-28 to make 42-49 at the half. The third quarter was really good for the Pinoys as they had huge momentum going to the 4th with a 27-35 blast, making it 69-84, and totally destroyed them by 8 again in the 4th, 25-33 to set the score of 94-117.

Othelo Cinco lead the way with 22 points on 10-17 shooting, despite 4 fouls.

Mar Tarroza had the best rating with 16.0 for his statline of 19 pointss, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks on 7-9 fgs(2-4 from deep)

Yoo-Chan Kim lead Hanguk with 29 points and 8 assists in an losing effort.

Errol Tuliva lead the Pinoys off the bench with 10 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 blocks in 20 minutes.

Our MVP of the Game is Othelo Cinco from Waffen Engineering, managed by fpanzer10!!!

On an interview, Cinco said, "Our team played defense and I'm getting a little help from other assistant coaches on how I should be trained. The South Koreans shot poorly from downtown, and we took advantage of it."

Hanguk U21 (94) - Y. Kim 29, J. Shin 20, H. Kim 19, J. Song 9, S. Lim 8, K. Kim 7, Z. Yinan 2, J Kim 0, W. Kim 0, S. Kang 0

Pilipinas U21 (117) - Cinco 22, Tarroza 19, Evacitas 15, Ygnacio 14, Tuliva 10, Heyrosa 9, Martinez Naranjo 9, Mabaquiao 8, Celebria 6, Escobar 3, Vidal 2

Quater scores : 13-21, 42-49, 69-84, 94-117

Pilipinas U21 trips Singapore U21 in the 4th, 33-8, beats them, 87-51

Pilipinas U21 continues their domination in the first round, beating a ready Singapore team, 87-51

Both teams used Princeton and Man to Man offense-defense scheme wherein the Singapore struggled mightily in the 4th quarter.

Othello Cinco, of Waffen Engineering, lead the way for Pilipinas U21 with 22 points and 3 rebounds on 9-20 field goals.

Jack Alvin Celebria lead the bench with 16 points, most of it in the 4th quarter to team up with Cinco, who also exploded in the 4th canto.

Gilberto Rolando Ygnacio added 15 points and 9 rebounds to support Cinco and Celebria.

The Pinoys thought the game is over with a 21-12 first quarter lead, but the Singaporeans took advantage of the poor shooting for the Filipinos in the 2nd to keep it close at 34-31 at the half. The Filipinos, however light it up in the 2nd half, outscoring them, 53-20, including a 33-8 4th quarter run to seal the win for the Filipinos.

On an interview, Coach Fabio said, "This is not an easy game as I told my boys. This is going to be a war, and the Singaporeans gave it all. I will give credit to them for playing their A-game, and forced my boys to play their A-game as well unlike the other games."

Pilipinas U21 held the Singaporeans to 24.68% field goal shooting (19/77), including a 7 of 31 from deep, and outrebounded them, 53-44.

Yap Tse Leng's 17 point, 10 rebound effort went for naught as the Singaporeans struggled to find their rhythm, except the 2nd quarter.

The scores

Pilipinas U21 87- Cinco 22, Celebria 16, Ygnacio 15, Escobar 9, Evacitas 8, Mabaquiao 8, Miranda 5, Tarroza 2, Vidal 2, Tuliva 0

Singapore U21 51- Tse Leng 17, Andy 14, Fu Qiang 6, Quiyum 6, Meng Chi 5, Ang 3, Woon Loong 0, Jien Ling 0, Johnny 0

Quarter scores: 21-12, 34-31, 54-43, 87-51

The player of the game is Othello Cinco of Waffen Engineering lead by GM fpanzer10!!!

On an interview, Cinco said, "This is a hard game to play. The Singaporeans gave their all, they lost all momentum in the 4th, but I gotta give respect to them for playing hard against us. We dominated, but we felt like we're really losing the game. Coach Fabio gave me freedom to shoot and score, and I took advantage of it. Thank you, Coach!"

Pilipinas U21's dominating run comes to a screeching halt, thanks to Hong Kong U21, 80-67

Pilipinas U21's run came to a screeching halt as Hong Kong played their best game against the Filipinos, 80-67.

Hong Kong used Push the Ball - Man to Man approach, while the Filipinos used Look Inside - Man to Man.

The balanced scoring of Hong Kong is enough to beat the Filipinos as their defense as well held them to only 18 points at the half, and 5 in the 2nd quarter.

Chan Maohai lead the way for Hong Kong U21 with 17 points, 3 rebounds ,and 3 steals on 7-12 field goals. Wu Huey kuo supported Maohai with 12 points on 5-8 shooting.

Hong Kong U21's defense held the Filipinos to shoot 35.9% (28/78) field goals. The Filipinos also struggled at the line, only shooting 10 of 20. Hong Kong shot 6 of 17 from downtown compared to the 1 of 11 for the Pinoys.

Hong Kong had a slim 16-13 first quarter lead, but the Filipinos struggled mightily in the 2nd, and HK U21 took advantage of it, making it 37-18 at the half. Hong Kong U21 continued its dominance in the 3rd to seal the deal, 65-37, eventually settling for an 80-67 victory.

On an interview, Coach Fabio said, "We didn't expect our boys to play like this, but I'll give credit to Hong Kong's defense, especially they only gave us 37 points after three quarters, knowing that our team's great in scoring. The HK boys definitely kicked our butts tonight to serve as a wake-up call for us that everybody's capable of beating us, so we must not be complacent on every game."

Gilberto Rolando Ygnacio and Mar Tarroza's 18 point, 13 rebound effort each went for naught as the 28 point lead by Hong Kong U21 after 3rd quarter proved too much for Pilipinas U21 to handle.

The scores

Hong Kong U21 80 - Maohai 17, Huey kuo 12, Yin Xiang 12, Huy Hoang 11, Libang 8, Yonghui 7, Xiaopeng 5, Chun Shun 4, Chin Hin 2, Tener 2

Pilipinas U21 67 - Ygnacio 18, Tarroza 18, Heyrosa 8, Espero 7, Evacitas 5, Celebria 4, Mabaquiao 4, Martinez Naranjo 3, Cinco 0, Escobar 0

The Filipinos proved their fightback despite the struggles in the 1st quarter, outscoring the Taiwanese, 63-52 on the next 3 quarters, eventually beating them, 73-68 last night.

Pilipinas U21 used Push The Ball - Man to Man, while Taiwan U21 used Outside Isolation - Man to Man.

Throughout the game, it was all about defense, and the Filipinos showed their fangs on defense, holding Taiwan U21 to only 30.2% field goals (26/86, 3/19 from three). The Filipinos shot worse, only at 28.9% field goals (24/83, 4/21 from three).

Filipinos also lead the defensive category with 10 steals and 8 blocks, compared to Taiwan U21's 6 steals and 3 blocks.

My entire team, especially my bigs provided strong inside defense. Evacitas also had a great defensive game with 5 steals. This is an all around effort job well done by my boys. Oh boy that defense is so good! On to the next game! I'll treat my boys some pizza since they really did good tonight. They showed that we're not only good on offense, but on the defensive side as well. Thank you, brothers!"

"I will now give my boys 1 day rest, then practice resumes on Thursday as we prepare for another great team in Malaysia U21!", Coach Fabio added.

Quarter scores: 10-16, 34-30, 50-45, 73-68

The player of the game is Mar Tarroza of Rosauro Tenmatay Show lead by GM Rosauro Tenmatay!!! He also had the highest rating with 16.5

On an interview, Tarroza said, "I only followed Rosauro Tenmatay's training scheme and I think it worked. Working out with my kuya Rosauro helped me become who I am today. Thank you! This was a dogfight and defense really proved to be the biggest factor for our win here. I need to rest as well and get my pizza as another tough opponent will face us in Malaysia U21."

Pilipinas U21 smothers Malaysia U21

Pilipinas U21 continues its winning ways in the 2nd round of the tournament, defeating Malaysia U21, 74-96.

Malaysia used Motion - 2-3 zone attack, while Pilipinas used Look Inside - 3-2 zone, neutralizing the potential shooting of Raposo.

Malaysia U21 held an 18-15 1st quarter lead, only to squander it in the 2nd as they only scored 7 points, due to the great outside defense of Pilipinas.

Pilipinas never lost the lead after the half, only to make it bigger as they obliterated Malaysia in the 3rd, 35-16 to set up the final score of 74-96.

Jack Alvin Celebria lead the way off the bench with 19 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists in only 21 minutes.

Davey Evacitas lead the storm for Pilipinas U21 with 14 points, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks.

Guilherme Raposo lead Malaysia U21 with 24 points and 5 rebounds, but on 10 of 31 field goals, and 4 of 19 3 point field goals.

Lei Yunan added 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists for the Malays in a losing effort.

On an interview, Coach Fabio Menta said, "We prepared for Raposo specifically in this game. He's a great scorer who can spark up to 50 to 60 points when he feels it. I give credit to Naranjo, Cinco, and the rest of the guards and wings who provided great defense for us. Our bigs did great despite the 2-3 zone of Malaysia U21 the whole game. Our boys had more fire in their eyes after that first quarter deficit, and I give credit to them for that. On to the next!"

The scores:

Malaysia U21 (74) - Raposo 24, Yunan 20, Vaidyanathan 8, Pius 7, Chen 6, Zilei 5, Nianti 4, Changming 0, Defan 0

Pilipinas U21 (96) - Celebria 19, Evacitas 14, Tarroza 14, Martinez Naranjo 12, Cinco 10, Eribal 8, Mabaquiao 6, Ygnacio 5, Espero 4, Vidal 2, Escobar 0

Quarter scores: 18-15, 25-41, 41-76, 74-96

The player of the game is Davey Evacitas, from team Flug Feld, managed by GM Motion!!!

On an interview, Evacitas said, "Martinez Naranjo should be the best player. He forced Raposo to take 31 shots, only making 10, and 4 of 19 from downtown! Our team did great on defense, especially on the next three quarters as our players are more energized after a 18-15 deficit after the first. Hopefully we can beat another tough team in New Zealand."

Pilipinas U21 devastated Jimmy Jackson, New Zealand U21 by 91

Jimmy Jackson is known to be a great scorer for New Zealand U21, but not tonight as he had one of the worst shooting nights in his BuzzerBeater career, holding him to only 19 points on a horrible shooting as Pilipinas U21 dominates, 137-46 in the 2nd round of the tournament.

New Zealand U21 used Patient - Man to Man, while Pilipinas U21 used Push The Ball - Man to Man.

Pilipinas U21 dominated every category in this game. New Zealand can't even stay away from foul trouble as they gave Pilipinas U21 27 attempts at the foul line, making 16, compared to 3 of 7 of NZ U21.

The defense of the Pinoys are at top notch in this game, holding NZ U21 to only 3 points in the first quarter, while scoring 31 points.

New Zealand U21 had a good 2nd quarter themselves, but still outscored by the Pinoys, 27-21 in favor of the Pinoys, giving them a 58-24 lead.

The 3rd and 4th quarters were dominated by Pilipinas U21 badly, outscoring New Zealand U21, 79-22 in the 2nd half, and 41 in the fourth, all by the bench.

Davey Evacitas lead the way for Pilipinas U21 with 25 points, 7 rebounds ,9 assists, and 4 steals, flirting a triple-double in the process.

Alvin Espero added 19 points and 16 rebounds off the bench.

Rafael Martinez Naranjo, who played great defense against Jimmy Jackson, added 18 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals on 4-4 from downtown.

Mar Tarroza had the highest rating with 17.0 with his 13 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists.

On an interview, Coach Fabio Menta said, "Wow! This team showed unforgiving defense on New Zealand. Jimmy Jackson had a bad game despite his 19 points, and my boys definitely prepared bigtime for this game. They showed how serious they are on winning this game. When they gave 21 points on New Zealand in the 2nd, they vowed to give them only 20 plus in the entire half, and they did with 22! Our boys scored 79 in the process. And our bench?! Scored 41 points in the fourth quarter! Unbelievable! Next week is a real test for our bigs as we will face Indonesia U21 and their tough bigs. We'll be prepared for that!"

Jimmy Jackson still lead New Zealand U21 with 19 points and 3 rebounds, but on 8-42 field goals and 1-10 3 point field goals.

Neerim Larbi added 14 points and played the whole game for NZ U21.

The scores:

Pilipinas U21 (137) - Evacitas 25, Espero 19, Martinez Naranjo 18, Tupaz 17, Tarroza 13, Ygnacio 12, Celebria 12, Miranda 8, Vidal 6, Cinco 4, Fresnillo 3, Tuliva 0

New Zealand U21 (46) - Jackson 19, Larbi 14, Dyhouse 5, Piper 4, Cockayane 2, Ward 2, O'Meley 0, Maurice 0

Quarter scores: 31-3, 58-24, 96-40, 137-46

The player of the game is Davey Evacitas from Flug Feld, managed by GM Motion!!!

On an interview, Evacitas said, "This is another tough game for us. I thought our defense took on an another level with this game. Jimmy Jackson had 42 shots, only making 8?! That's something right there! I think Martinez Naranjo should be the MVP for this game. His defense is just simply amazing! Up to the next game! Our real test for our bigs against Indonesia U21!"
