After 8 seasons, this season will be my final dance as your U21 coach.

@home against Taiwan

very strong team but we have the HCA.

away against Macau

A must win.

Taiwan U21 vs Belgium U21 83-75 (59741)

A difficult start made us chase a strong Taiwan. After the first half we managed to give it a small lead 34-37. In the 2nd half we could increase our lead but because our PF Dobbelaere was fouled out, our guard Vrancken played as PF the whole time. I didn't set a reserve on this position and it would have cost us a possible victory. Altough with Dobbelaere still on the floor it would have been an exciting game, with maybe a win as result. But we'll never know. A nice thing to see was that our TO's were limited to 8. Something to be proud of.

The advantage of that tiny loss is that our PD was -8, and with that 2nd game we are currently the 2nd 1-1 team in the ranking.



Belgium U21 vs Macau U21 134-56 (59787)

This was foreseen. Macau's best player would not have made the final cut in our U21 team. An easy game and time to save enthousiasm.

This road should be doable and it should bring us easily to the 2nd round.
The only game I'm afraid of is the one in Serbia. A strong team and they have the HCA.
In the end we should go 6-2, what will bring us 1 HCA round.

Winning the tournament will be extremely difficult (read: impossible). But we'll see how things go :)

About our first round:

With the first game which we lost against Taiwan (much stronger team), we needed to stay perfect to end in a decent position for HCA in the 2nd round. Before the game of Serbia (in theory a logical loss) we weren't sure to have HCA in round 2 and with the good GS, I decided to go for a CT. This was a gamble because I knew we would have lost enthousiasm but I was hoping for 1 HCA game so we were able to survive until the last 16. Despite the normal of Serbia, we won quite easily but I'm not sure we could have won with a Normal.

Result: 7/7 after the loss against Taiwan and as 10th in the ranking we had HCA in the 1/16th final.


1/16th final Ceska U21 - Belgium U21 90-91 (60267)

Like Joe for our NT, I also had doubt to select a Normal or play CT since I wanted to go as far as possible. But to consider our enthousiasm for the next game and since we had the HCA, a normal it was. But what a nail-biting game it was :+(

With 17 seconds left we were behind 90-89, but P Horemans managed to get a steal and M. Donche could finish his shot from the top of the key => 90-91.

The 13 last seconds were horrible, Ceska had 2 attempts but our defense made the difference. After a shot from their guard, their C came up with an offensive rebound. 1 second left and our C T. Tutenel put him under pressure with a result that he missed a contested shot. Bref, a Normal was enough.

Nice win, but mixed feelings. In the next round we'll face a motivated Serbia. Are we capable of winning there again? I think it's impossible, we have lower enthousiasm and no HCA. But we'll see next Monday, I'm already happy with our consolation this far. I already want to say thank you to all the owners who are doing an excellent job with GS management :)

Those 2 who mentioned 1/8th final, will probably be right ;)

In 5 minutes our game against Serbia will start.
I tried to predict the tactics of our opponent, which was not very easy but I have to take risks if we want to make the best out of it.

This will most likely be the end game of our consolation tournament and my final official game as U21 coach.
