I’ve done it! 22-0!

It’s the first time I’ve gone 22-0 and I’ve managed to do it playing wing trainees at C in all but 2 games. I’m happy I’ve guaranteed promotion but I still want to Div II title to add to my trophy cabinet.

Good luck to everyone else in the playoffs/relegation games.

No real big changes to playoff seedings in the final game last night.

In the EBBL Tide of Fire took the win to regain the top seed for the playoffs while Durham Wasps did beat Leeds City Ballers but fell 6 points short in the game which would have given them the playoff spot.

In division II.3 the blue side saw a big shuffle in seedings as 3rd seed M Dogs lost to 4th seed Coventry while Free agent and SC Bastia picked up big wins which left M Dogs down in the 6th seed while SC Bastia leaped from 6th seed to pip Free Agent to the 4th seed by 4 points. And to make things a little worse for Free Agent, they lost the 4th quarter by 16 points.

Not much else appears to have changed in the other division II leagues in the playoff race.

Good luck to everyone on Tuesday

The playoffs are here! Here is a quick overview of the first round matchups in the EBBL and division II.

EBBL
The reigning EBBL champions Tide of Fire face cup runner up Arsenal 98 on their first step for back to back EBBL titles. Arsenal 98 did win their most recent matchup 88-75 but Tide of Fire have the home court advantage this time round.

In the 2nd vs 3rd seed game on the blue side, LIDLTallfellas face NT U21 coach js8’s Optic Fibres. The Tallfellas did beat Optic Fibres in their previous game but it took an overtime effort to do so. This game could go either way.

Over on the red side, Hope Springs face Leeds City Ballers in the 1v4 tie. Leeds’ top scorer Abu Shaqra has been out through injury but has been able to recover for the playoffs. Hope Springs did the double during the season and look to make it 3/3 wins against Leeds.

The 2v3 matchup between London Whales and BC Zalgiris is a very interesting game as London hold home court advantage but BC Zalgiris are carrying the highest team salary in the league and are seen as favourites by some. Can Zalgiris overcome London’s home court to advance? The Whales will be looking to NT players Barral and MacLaverty to perform well.

The EBBL relegation battles this season look very tasty as all 6 teams finished with between 10 and 8 wins during the season, suggesting every series is going to be close.

The 9-13 Cambois Donkeys face 8-14 Bournemouth Drunkers in the first 5v7 matchup. The Donkeys did win the in-season matchup between the two teams, but did lose their last 4 league games and will need to end their losing streak if they want to survive.

The other 5v7 matchup sees the 10-12 Durham Wasps, who fell 12 points short of making the playoffs, face the 8-14 Bethnal Green Erks. Bethnal started the season 0-8 and managed to turn it around after a 7 point win over the Wasps. Bethnal did have home court advantage in that game which they don’t in this series. Can the Wasps pick up the 2 wins they need?

The final relegation tie sees two teams that finished with a 9-13 record, Stinkilemons and Bromley-By-Bow. Stinkilemons have home court advantage in the series due to their better points difference which could prove crucial for them. They will be hoping the fire power of wings Magdaleno Banuelos and Dallis Brona can be enough to keep them in the EBBL. Stinkilemons won the last matchup comfortably, but the pressure of relegation may make a difference this time round.

Division II.1
Galaxy Walkers face the team that spoilt their unbeaten season Doncaster Hawks. The Hawks beat the Walkers 84-80 away from home a few weeks ago, can they upset the top seeds again?

The other big 8 tie sees kotwa face new jersey2 which should also provide an exciting game with both teams looking strong heading in to their playoff runs.

Over on the red side, top seed Detroit Pistons I face Scunthorpe Devils in their quest to finally promote from division II.1 after completing their 25th consecutive season.

The other great 8 game sees 2nd seed Hurstead Hustlers face Toral Castro as the red side look to show they can compete as the blue side looked considerably strong during the season.

Division II.2
MexicanTaxiDriver won top spot in division II.2 with a 21-1 record and they face last seasons EBBL team JA Miami in the first round. JA have forfeited there last 5 games, could this be because they see MTD as a favourable matchup? We’ll have to wait and see.

The other big 8 game sees 2nd seed T20 Crickters face Borac Basket. Whist they’re records are far apart during the season (T20 at 18-4 while Borac at 11-11), Borac have some impressive players on their roster and could cause an upset.

Over in the great 8, Roaring Lions topped the conference with a 19-3 record but received a big blow as star NT win Simon Redding went down injured in the last game and hasn’t been able to recover in time. Porzigod will believe this gives them a chance of a big upset.

The other great 8 tie between 2nd seed Heat Culture and 3rd seed Gophers promises to be a high scoring affair as the two top scoring teams face off.

Division II.3
The tightly contested big 8 saw 6 teams finish within 2 wins of each other as PONTIOPOYLA finished top with a 12-10 record and they will face SC Bastia who miraculously finished 4th on the final day of the season. SC Bastia we’re the 2nd highest scoring team in the league so don’t count them out against the top seed.

The 2v3 matchup sees Coventry Phoenix travel to Nutwood Nets which promises to be a hard fought battle as both teams will be looking to advance and make a run to the finals.

In the great 8, pressure is on for Team Nook after an unbeaten 22-0 season puts them as favourites to win the title. They face Scarface who have star power with guard Marc Brooks and C Marino Casclola and they will hope to provide an upset.

The second great 8 game sees 2nd seed MILF Hunters battle Kauno Zalgiris 7 BC in a contrast of styles. Kauno we’re the highest scoring team in the league by over 100 points while MILF used they’re defensive strength as they ended with the 2nd best defensive record. They say offence wins game but defence wins championships, which will come out on top?

Division II.4
In division II.4, the St Purple & Greens won the best league record, finishing at 20-2. They face Club Deportivo in the first round, who they beat both times during the season. They will be looking to make it 3 out of 3.

The big 8 also sees 2nd seed Camden Kings face Whetstone Wizards. The Wizards denied the Kings the top spot after they picked up the win against them near the end of the season. Can the Wizards defeat them again or will the King ms get their revenge?

In the great 8, veteran team CWA Fury topped the conference with a 18-4 record and they will face another veteran team Gauson. The season series went 1-1 as both teams picked up home wins. It should be a good game to see who comes out on top this time.

Pleven North End face off against TheBeasts in the other great 8 matchup. Pleven North End enter the playoffs having 6 of their last 7 games, including a 22 point win over TheBeasts. They will be looking to continue their strong play in to the playoffs.

EBBL
Arsenal 98 came so close to causing an upset against Tide of Fire before a game-winning buzzerbeater 3 by SG Victor Cullen won the game 76-73. Cullen scored a game high 20 points for Tide of Fire in the low scoring battle between the cup runner up and reigning EBBL champion.

The other big 8 tie saw 2nd seed LIDLTallfellas defeat Optic Fibres 103-96 behind 22 points each from PG Mark Appleby and league leading scorer SF Su Shijia. The Fibres were led by PF Elias Bailon who had 29 points but it wasn’t enough to beat the Tallfellas.

Tide of Fire face LIDLTallfellas in the big 8 conference finals in a battle between two of England’s greatest BB franchises. The top seed won the season series 2-0 and will be looking to complete the sweep.

In the Great 8, Hope Springs lived up to the top seed as they beat Leeds City Ballers comfortably 91-77 as C Andreas Storksen went 13-14FG for 26 points and 15 rebounds. Storksen was well supported as 5 other Hope Springs players scored in double figures in the victory.

The other great 8 match saw the two biggest salary teams in London Whales face BC Zalgiris. London Whales were able to beat the cup winners 95-92 as SG Mirko Jovicic scored a buzzer-beater 3 pointer to win the game. BC Zalgiris’ SF Ian Leigh and SG Ho Li Song scored 34 and 31 respectively but it wasn’t enough to get the win. SF Tai Peng Seng led the way for the whales with 29 points on 10-15 shooting as well as 8-8 from the line.

The London Whales now travel away to Hope Springs as both teams look to reach the EBBL finals for the first time. The season series between the teams was 1-1 with the home team winning each time. Hope Springs have the home court advantage this time and will hope to make it count.

As with the playoff games, home court proved powerful as all 3 relegation games went the way of the home teams. Cambois Donkeys beat Bournemouth Drunkers 84-71, Durham Wasps defeated Bethnal Green Erks 97-67 and Stinkilemons won 109-97 against with a dominant 54 point game from SF Dallis Brona.

Division II.1
Galaxy Walkers became the first team to lose with home court as they lost again to Doncaster Hawks. The Walkers took their first league defeat to Doncaster a few weeks ago and the Hawks found a way to beat them once again, this time 80-66.

A game winner from SG Jader de Jesus gave kotwa a 101-100 victory over new jersey2. New jersey2 were led by 31 points from PF Massimo Passanti but it wasn’t enough to overcome 7 kotwa players scoring double digits.

Kotwa will now face Doncaster Hawks with home court advantage. Kotwa have predominantly used outside scoring throughout the season whereas Doncaster are usually lead by their bigs inside. It should be a good battle between the teams. Kotwa won the season series 2-0.

In the great 8, both games were comfortable won by the home teams. The Detroit Pistons I beat Scunthorpe Devils 114-80 with 4 players scoring 16+points. Scunthorpe were led by former NY U21 player Greg Monk who scored 27 points alongside 9 rebounds from the PG spot.

Hurstead Hustlers beat Toral Castro 104-83 and were carried by PF Zheng Ruibin who scored 29 points on only 15 shots. PG Paolo Quaranta went 4-4 from 3 to add 22 points in the win.

The season series between Detroit Pistons I and Hurstead Hustlers was tied with the home team picking up the wins. Detroit are looking to end their run in division II and Hurstead are the next team in their way.

Division II.2
The 21-1 MexicanTaxiDrivers got an easy first round win as JA Miami failed to turn up for the game.

The second seed T20 Cricketers weren’t so lucky as they won a hard fought battle against Borac Basket. 6 of T20’s 7 active players scored double figures in the win and it proved too much for Borac to win.

Over in the great 8, the Roaring Lions were able to beat Porzigod 75-62 despite key player Simon Redding missing through injury. SG Govardhan Sengupta scored 20 points for the Lions in the Redding’s absence. As of Thursday Redding’s status is still out but he will be working hard to be fit for the conference finals.

Heat Culture were able to out-score Gophers in a high scoring game that finished 137-120. Both teams scored 19 3 pointers each but Heat Culture were more efficient, scoring their 19 3’s in 12 less shots. SF Samuel Braga Nunes top scored with 35 points, shooting 14-24FG and 6-93FG.

The Roaring Lions need to beat Heat Culture in their quest to reach the EBBL as with Galaxy Walkers crashing out, they need to win the title in order to earn promotion. The Lions did beat Heat Culture both times during the season and will hope to do it again, but Redding’s injury status will be a worry for them.
