Cubs win against Singapore, 98-82
The Pilipinas Cubs kicked off Season 56 of the U21 Round Robin campaign by beating Singapore, 98-82.
The Cubs survived a lackluster start, trailing by as much as seven points by the end of the first quarter. "I would charge this to game day jitters, we will do better in our match," rookie coach fpanzer10 said during the post-game conference.
Guard Howell Misa led the Cubs with a team-high 34 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists, and 3 steals in 35 minutes of action. "I saw Singapore beating us in the opening minutes of the game, I felt I had to take charge and do my part to keep things close," said Misa during an interview with courtside reporters after the game.
When asked what the game plan is against New Zealand, coach fpanzer said, "Convert more shots, and our defense will do the rest. We cannot afford to be inefficient, especially since we have Taiwan in our bracket."
Team Pilipinas currently sits second, behind the UAE, by virtue of point differential. Taiwan will play its first game against the UAE next week.
