Only three days after the blockbuster acquisition of Elroy Copeland, the 'Burn make another surprise move selling off their star Center, Reynaldo Alvarado and purchasing a replacement Mursit Tanriover. Both transactions were team records with Tanriover being purchased for $530,700 while Reynaldo Alvarado was sold off for $900,000. Even though the Burn net almost a $400000 profit, they feel that they have the better end of the transactions.
Tanriover has nearly identical skills on his inside game but brings in considerable more stamina, Experience and the ability to actually sink a free throw. Tanriover is a 28 year old player with two all-star appearances under his belt. He has also grabbed 25 or more rebounds six times. Tanriover has averaged 10.6 rebounds and 11.3 points per game in his 10 season career.
Sunburn PF and co season 43 draft pick, Zack McCory, had been one of Reynoso's closest friends both on and off the court. He said that he was, "very sorry to see his brother go but was also ecstatic to have a player with Tanriover's abilities come in as his replacement. As soon as we can work out some chemistry, we are going to be unstoppable in the paint."
With the 'Burn brigning in (SG) Copeland and (C) Tanriover this season and the addition of (PG) Zoran Dorevic last season, the team has a very new look and may be on the verge of turning around their abysmal start to their newly achieved D.III league position. This is a new look, and it looks good!
