Team Pandesal Strengthens Backcourt: Welcomes Soon-Jae Kwon, Parts Ways with Per Mathiasson

July 27, 2025

Team Pandesal has officially announced a strategic roster move, welcoming Soon-Jae Kwon, a 19-year-old point guard with MVP potential, while parting ways with Per Mathiasson, another young guard previously in the team’s developmental rotation.

Soon-Jae Kwon, standing 6’4”, brings solid ball-handling and passing fundamentals alongside respectable defensive versatility. His addition provides Pandesal with a long-term project player who fits the team’s evolving perimeter-oriented identity and training roadmap.

Per Mathiasson, also 19 and with Perennial Allstar potential, has been released to free up roster space. While Mathiasson showed promise with his balanced skillset and solid inside scoring for a guard, the team opted for Kwon’s higher ceiling and broader development trajectory.

“It was a tough decision because Mathiasson gave us depth, but Kwon’s potential and profile match our future plans perfectly. We’re excited to integrate him into our training program,” said the team’s general manager.

Soon-Jae Kwon will immediately join Pandesal’s youth-focused training system as the team continues refining its backcourt for both current competitiveness and long-term success in USA IV.61.

Glad your squad is making moves and continues to improve. Looking at the current standings and the rest of the league, it seems we will be the only two competitors the rest either being inactive players or BOTs. Through 6 League games the Jazz and Pandesal are both 6-0 and firmly in 1st place of our respective divisions. The Jazz point differential in league play is nearly identical to Pandesal at 376 for the former to 370 for the latter. So far in the league of the Top 25 players in net rating on the year, 22 of said 25 players are either Jazz or Pandesal players. Should be a great matchup in a couple of weeks looks like the only meetings of the year, and a great battle all the way to the finals. Cheers mate on a good year and both of us it seems setting our squads up for promotion wherever we end up!
