Gabo Familiar Finishes His Campaign for the Under 21 Alas Pilipinas Team
Ribonucleic Acid proudly recognizes Gabo Familiar for his performance as the starting point guard of the Philippines Under-21 Alas Pilipinas Team. Throughout the tournament, Familiar proved to be a key leader on the court, averaging 9.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 7.7 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. He is currently playing overseas in Utopia in the club's second team, Celestial Wrath.
Among his many contributions, one of his most memorable moments came against Brazil, where he knocked down a crucial three-pointer in the dying seconds of regulation to force the game into overtime. In that same matchup, he came just two rebounds short of recording a triple-double, a testament to his all-around game and relentless competitiveness.
Reflecting on the campaign, Familiar acknowledged both the challenges and the pride of representing the country on the world stage:
“It is disappointing not to achieve the finish we hoped for, but I am proud to have competed against the best in the world. The experience is invaluable, and I will continue to grow from it.”
Looking ahead, Gabo also expressed support for his younger brother, Abelardo Baluyot, who is set to take on a leading role in the upcoming Asia qualifiers.
“I wish my brother Abelardo all the best for next season. He will be taking on the responsibility of leading the team as its top point guard, and I am confident in his ability to excel,” he stated.
Ribonucleic Acid commends Gabo Familiar for his leadership, sportsmanship, and commitment to the Alas Pilipinas program. His performance stands as an inspiration for the next generation of Filipino basketball players.
