The Silverbacks concluded a historic campaign on Sunday, securing the NBBA Championship with a Game 3 victory over Splash Gang and finishing the season with a league-best 20–2 record. The mark stands as the strongest regular season in franchise history, surpassing even the organization’s original 12-season run in the NBBA.
The championship caps a landmark year in which the Silverbacks claimed first place in the Great 8, finished with the top overall record in the NBBA, and won the National Tournament in an 84–75 victory over the Mill City Thunder. It is the first time in team history the club has secured both the Cup and the NBBA title in the same season.
The Silverbacks’ postseason run reflected the team’s consistency on both ends of the floor. In the opening round, they delivered a commanding 85–51 win over TarTeam. They followed that performance with a 115–85 victory against the Mill City Thunder in the semifinals, powered by consistent execution at the free throw line and a decisive edge on the glass.
In the finals, the Silverbacks faced Splash Gang in a three-game series. Game 1 was defined by defense, as the Silverbacks earned a 69–55 win while holding Splash Gang to 20 percent shooting from the field. William Orourke led all scorers with 24 points. Splash Gang answered in Game 2 with a 97–87 win behind a 33-point effort from David Sohn, setting up a decisive third game. In Sunday’s finale, Splash Gang controlled the offensive glass with 23 offensive rebounds, but struggled from long range, shooting 3-for-28 from beyond the arc against stifling perimeter defense. The Silverbacks capitalized in the closing minutes to clinch their first NBBA championship since Season 22.
Capping off the season, William Orourke was unanimously named NBBA Most Valuable Player. “We just stayed with it all year,” said Orourke. “Even when things weren’t perfect, we trusted each other and kept working. Everybody in that locker room sacrificed, defended, and did their job. That’s why we’re holding the trophy now.”
The Silverbacks will look to build on this season’s success as they prepare for the upcoming year.
