Proposed Competition Restructuring

1. Hierarchy & Core Function

To expand international competition below the **BuzzerBeater Champions Cup (BB3)**, a new EuroCup-style Secondary Competition is introduced.

* **BB3:** The premier global club tournament (highest prestige & rewards).
* **Secondary Competition:** Dedicated stage for National Cup winners, BuzzerBeater Madness tier champions, and crossover teams from BB3.
* **Madness & Domestic Cups:** Provide direct sporting pathways to global play rather than functioning as isolated events.

2. Qualification & Tournament Structure

Entry Routes

* **Automatic:** Every National Cup winner (excl. Utopia) and every BuzzerBeater Madness tier champion.
* **Cascading Spots:** If a club qualifies via multiple routes, priority passes to: (1) Domestic Cup Runner-Up, (2) Next-highest Madness finisher, (3) Top non-qualified league club.
* **Seeding System:** Entry stages (preliminary vs. late qualifying) determined by National Coefficients, BB Madness Tier, and recent international performance.

Suggested Format

* **Qualifying:** Two-legged aggregate ties (with immediate OT after Game 2 if tied) reducing the field to 32 teams. Early rounds regionalized to manage travel.
* **Group Stage:** 32 teams split into 8 groups of 4 (double round-robin, 6 games). Group winners advance directly to the **Round of 16**.
* **BB3 Crossover Playoff:** Group runners-up play a 2-legged tie against 8 eligible teams eliminated from BB3. The 8 winners fill the remaining Round of 16 spots.
* **Knockout Phase:** Two-legged aggregate ties for R16, Quarterfinals, and Semifinals. Single-match **Final** at a neutral venue.

---

3. Prize Money & Economic Balance

To ensure international play is financially lucrative while preserving BB3’s elite status, total BB3 prize money is scaled to **2x–3x the secondary tournament’s pool.

Suggested Prize Breakdown *(Relative to Current BB3 Title Reward = 1.0 Unit)*

| Stage | BB3 Reward | Secondary Comp. Reward |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Participation** | 0.20 units | 0.10 units |
| **Group Win (per game)** | 0.05 units | 0.025 units |
| **Group Winner Bonus** | 0.10 units | 0.05 units |
| **Crossover Win** | N/A | 0.10 units |
| **Round of 16** | 0.20 units | 0.125 units |
| **Quarterfinal** | 0.35 units | 0.20 units |
| **Semifinal** | 0.55 units | 0.30 units |
| **Runner-Up** | 1.25 units | 0.60 units |
| **Champion Title** | **2.00 units** | **1.00 unit** |

* **Cumulative Champions:** A BB3 champion earns roughly 3–4x current rewards; the Secondary Champion earns cumulative rewards equivalent to the old BB3 title (~2.5:1 BB3-to-Secondary overall payout ratio).

Financial Safeguards

To prevent market inflation:

Incorporate arena/scouting credits into payouts.
Implement progressive payouts across stages rather than lump sums.
Prevent double-dipping on participation bonuses for BB3 crossover teams.
Periodic economy reviews against average salaries.

---

4. Sporting Incentives

Secondary Champion Rewards

* Automatic qualification for next season’s **BB3 Group Stage**.
* Permanent club trophy, high seed protection, and global ranking boost.
* Secondary Runner-up gets direct group stage entry into the next Secondary Competition.

All of these as well as your league structure ideas are great. The future pay for developed players idea as someone else mentioned is even already implemented in similar games.
