HGL-PL (HGL-Promotion/Participation League) info for Season 5 of HGL:

On this Season 5, we will start a HGL-PL "short league", for teams that:
A) are not currently playing in HGL, but would wish to do so on either HGL Season 6 or 7 (played during BB seasons 73 and 74), and
B) are willing to remain completely homegrown teams throughout the whole duration of HGL-PL (see *1 below), and
C) are willing to organize HGL-PL Pickup (PU) matches based on official schedule that HGL will provide. This does require usage of tokens, and basic understanding on how this PU match process works. It will also require communication with HGL Commissioner (myself), to get possible problems sorted out quickly.

*1= on this Season 5 you are able to trade after HGL-PL has ended completely, as long as your team becomes HGL eligible before you might start in HGL (after possibly receiving invitation based on your success in HGL-PL).
This is due to the current facts:
- there seems to be a place to HGL Season 6 available through this Seasons' HGL-PL, but it's probably decent to let managers become non-HG while waiting (especially worst teams of HGL-PL likely not receiving invitation for HGL for the next Season).
- we are still somewhat undecided on whether this HGL-PL ranking will also be used to determine which teams are being offered a place in HGL for Season 7 as well (in the case if managers would withdraw from the HGL voluntarily, or if HGL will adopt a relegation/promotion scenario; voting about that is under way), if no new teams announce their interest to participate to Season 7 after this Seasons' HGL-PL has started; or whether result of this first HGL-PL should be used only for ranking teams in an order in which they would be offered a place to HGL should some managers withdraw their participation commitment for Season 6.

Please also note:
A) you should only participate to HGL-PL, if you are actually intending to accept place in HGL for either Season 6 (in the first place) or on Season 7; it's not meant to be just 'a league to play few fun PU games without any purpose', and

B) it is not guaranteed, that this result would be used on next Season (7) selection/offering process, so if you're extremely low on tokens, you might want to consider if it's worth participating now.

Having said that, I want to emphasize, that teams are offered a place in HGL based on success of most recent HGL-PL.
Please take that into consideration.

Let me give you an example:

We'll play HGL-PL now on Season 5.
Result of it is guaranteed to be used at least for Season 6 replacement processes (team withdrawals with short notice but only before Season 6 starts).
It might also be used for Season 7's similar process, but as mentioned, it remains to be decided.

Now let's take example teams that have and have not participated to this first HGL-PL.

Imaginary teams that have participated to HGL-PL, and results:
Winner of HGL-PL: Team A $400K
2nd: Team B $460K
3rd: Team C $80K
4th: Team D $120K

Imaginary teams that have not participated to HGL-PL, but would theoretically be interested in HGL Season 6:
Most expensive top8-salary, Team E $800K
2nd most expensive top8-salary, Team F $600K.

Now to get to the point in this example, remember, that teams are offered "a cancellation/withdrawal" places to HGL based on success in most recent HGL-PL being played.
Therefore, if for example 3 teams would be for any reason withdrawing (or making an action causing a penalty that would make their team HGL-ineligible for the next Season), teams would be offered a place in order of A, B and then C.

Note, that teams having not participated to HGL-PL, with salaries of $800K and $600K, would be only 5th and 6th in order on this "invitation list" as they would have not participated to HGL-PL at all in that occassion.
I hope this explanation and example clears the idea behind HGL-PL.

HGL-PL (HGL-Promotion/Participation League) info post 2/2 for Season 5 of HGL:

On this Season 5, HGL-PL is played either with round robin format (every team faces each other once), playoff-format (one match to decide winner at each stage), or a mix of both (depending on number of teams willing to participate).

Format will likely be round robin (to be announced), as that would provide most fair solution to all and also clear and easily defineable ranking order of teams, but as mentioned elsewhere before, among some other factors the amount of participating teams would affect that decision.

The points that would speak in behalf of combining both systems (first playoff among weakest teams, to see which team(s) will get access to actual HGL-PL round robin) are that we could keep the games as meaningful/as even as possible (and avoid most of those 65 point blowouts), and also if there would be plenty of teams, the token usage for round robin-format HGL-PL could become an issue to some.

Ranking similar to Official Regular Season Rankings (ORSR) used in HGL will be created after the HGL-PL has finished, and the result of most recently played HGL-PL is used when inviting teams to further Seasons of HGL, in the case (now or then) current HGL team:
- decides to withdraw voluntarily
- causes a penalty through their actions (or being inactive/non-communicative in important matters especially during critical times of the Season) that will cause them to lose their place in HGL for the next Season.

Note though, that replacements won't be done in a middle of any given Season (after first Regular Season match of HGL has been played on each Season).

See next post for HGL-PL (that is played during HGL Season 5)
- participating teams,
- schedule, and
- league table.

Schedule and League Table post for Season 5 of HGL:

Please note, especially if you're more or less a random visitor unfamiliar with HGL, that this is not the actual HGL (Home-Grown League) schedule/scores/league table post, but HGL-PL is rather a short league/playoff/combination of both depending on a Season.

HGL-PL is played in order to be able to determine in which order teams are being offered places to HGL on next Season should there be any voluntary withdrawals of current managers (at the last minute, as has often been the case), or severe penalties given to teams that would make some current team(s) being ineligible for next HGL Season.

The scores, schedules and league table of actual HGL can be found from HGL Scores Season 5 Official Thread, here: (331391.1).

Teams that will not participate to HGL-PL on Season 5/teams that aren't yet 100% HGL-PL eligible:,
1. BC Homegrown (Dutch Farmer) - will not participate to 1st HGL-PL
2. San Antonio Gladiators (Enigma) - has not responded
3. San Fernando VR (VR75) *has currently 1 ineligible player; Bolourchian* - will participate
4. Svätý Jur Snakers - will not participate

Teams that have previously announced their interest have been contacted (see:(331392.83)), and posts have been published on HGL main Thread, and Homegrown Teams II-thread, to make as many HG teams aware of it as possible.

Participating teams (and name of manager) to HGL-Promotion/Participation League (HGL-PL) on Season 5,
and their local match time on Season 5, team abbreviations and team links:

- 10.30PM Tassie Devils (Tazdevil); TD (38697)
- 02.30PM San Fernando VR (VR75); SAN (77070)
- 02.30PM borteam (bort); BOR (46607)
- 03.30PM M.L.S. REICH (impero); MLS (39615)

Schedule of HGL-PL on HGL Season 5:

Important: Official match time is the same on HGL-PL, as it is on HGL;
on Season 5 that is your local equivalent of 03.30PM aka. 15.30 Eastern European Time, Daylight Savings Time (EET DST), matches organized at wrong times will not be accepted as results!

Note: all matches that will be organized before HGL-PL starts (just as in HGL).

Matches will be organized by each participating team using Pickup (PU) matches, and are played on neutral court only!

HGL-PL will be played using Round Robin-format, meaning that each team faces each other once during "Regular Season".
Result of Regular Season (3 matches per team) determines the result of HGL-PL; no Playoffs on HGL-PL will be played on Season 5.
There are 4 participating teams, so that means 3 Rounds will be played in total.

For clarification of team abbreviations, see confirmed teams-listing above; you can use team link to access team page and send your opponent a PU match invitation.

So, below you will find schedule for HGL-PL on Season 5:

Note: # sign in front of team name means it's their responsible to send Pickup match challenge!

@ all HGL-PL teams on Season 5:

Tassie Devils (Tazdevil); TD (38697)
San Fernando VR (VR75); SAN (77070)
borteam (bort); BOR (46607)
M.L.S. REICH (impero); MLS (39615)

You need to create an own HGL-PL box score post for Season 5 for your team, by responding to this message/post.

You can copy-paste everything below the line of stars (********************************) that you can find below, to your box score post.
Process is simple: you just exclude (remove) that match on every round in which you don't play in, and then provide a match link to your post when you have created that match challenge.
In other words, when you have organized a match, you go to your team schedule, click on a match, and then see the address line of the browser and note the match number, and then in below "[match=XXX]" you replace XXX with the correct match number.

Remember: I will verify all matches before they are played, so it is of utmost of importance of everyone providing match links to their own box score posts before HGL-PL starts.
But I can not verify court balance before match starts, so be very careful to only organize matches on neutral court only!

When the matches have been played, you also edit it to include all match scores in written numbers (you can see my actual HGL box score post on Season 5, to get an example of it, here: (331391.22).

So reply to this post by copying everything below that line of stars to your teams' own box score post, and edit it as needed:
********************************

This is my teams' own box score post for HGL-PL on Season 5:

HGL-PL Round 1, Monday July 20th, 2026:

#TD-SAN [match=XXX]
MLS-#BOR [match=XXX]

HGL-PL Round 2, Friday July 24th, 2026:
#TD-BOR [match=XXX]
#MLS-SAN [match=XXX]

HGL-PL Round 3, Sunday July 26th, 2026:
TD-#MLS [match=XXX]
#SAN-BOR [match=XXX]

Note: # sign in front of team name means it's their responsibility to send Pickup match challenge!

EDIT: As everyone can see, things below have been completed, so of course this post can be ignored for now; I'll keep it here for now as other HGL manager has replied to this post so I don't prefer to use it for another purpose currently (as his reply refers to this post).

(End of an EDIT).

We are in a rush if and as we want to start Season 5 in time, hence the direct way of communication:

Still to this moment Alanurmon Rikkaat (ALA) has not created box score post for their team for Season 5.

They have been contacted, as I mentioned.

ALA has been online after my latest reminder, but no response to my message (or created box score post) - I don't know if matches have been properly created or not.

@all: it's 38 hours until the planned start of HGL Season 5. We need to step up our game a notch and finish strong, in order being able to get things done in time, so I ask everyone to make sure everything is as is supposed to be in terms of everybody having all of their Season 5 matches organized in their BB schedule.

Also, as many managers as possible, please try to click game links on other HGL managers' box score posts; do they work (or not, like is the case when I try to click them)?

I'm just waiting on ALA

Thanks for info. I have match against ALA organized myself, but many seem to have that exact match missing.

Now at least ED, TRO, HGK, myself, and a non-HGL team Reghin Bulls have reported about same issue, so maybe this is real issue with all of us, yes?

Can everybody or at least some HGL managers please try to click HGL match links on their own BB schedule to see if they work?
For me they work that way, and that to me is the strange part.

It makes me think how links can be broken, as I don't think anything should've changed during BB server migration, and for instance:
- pressing basketball icon on BB text (post) editing window produces same kind of string of text, [match=XXX]
- going to tactics set up-page on my first HGL match (vs. LMS) produces same kind of text as usual: https://www.buzzerbeater.com/match/138830137/tactics.aspx

When I change that match number to typical box score link (*boxscore.aspx), it then produces a typical Oops-error message.
(In other words, when I open that match from my BB schedule page, it opens tactics/match set up-page > then when I replace text 'tactics' on browser address line with 'boxscore' I get the error message)

Speaking of which, can somebody please try to do the same experiment as described above so we could see if it's only me that this problem is haunting?

I'm just waiting on ALA

ALA (Alanurmon Rikkaat) contacted me 3 hours ago and told he sent rest of match challenges (which he wrote to his box score post as well, which he yesterday created).

@all: Everyone please accept ALA's match offers (if they are 100% correct, of course) if you haven't yet organized match against him, even though it's not sure first Round(s) of match(es) will be accepted as result - we just have to take that risk with tokens (reorganizing some matches would take some tokens) as BB's actions seems to be out of our control.

Still no reply from BB-Staff on Bug report made by MrJ.

Another manager (not from BB-Staff) little Guest had replied like this to that bug report:
It seems that games that haven't started yet show an Oops! page on the boxscore page, not just pickup games but also league games, cup games, and BBM games.

Like I asked before:
Does anyone know what's the best way to reach BB-Staff, as I don't use Discord?
I sent a quick message on that bug thread (as a reply on MrJ's thread) asking assistant from BB-Staff especially, but like I said, maybe quicker method to reach them directly would be better? Yes, no? Any experience on that, anyone?
