Unfortunately, yes that's the reason.

- Winning by forfeit counts as not playing a game for virtue of the statistical rankings
- Jersey sales are based on league/division/country/world ranking positions, and your player must qualify for rankings (play 50% of the games rounded up) as of the Sunday morning daily update in order to earn jersey sales.

So if your player doesn't play an official match on game day 1 (due to not dressing/appearing, or due to a forfeit) then they don't qualify for player jersey sales in week 1.

Right, but I'd like to think that this 0 Jersey sales situation is not the intended game behavior or outcome, and that it is merely an edge case that wasn't fully thought through and needs to be addressed.
Besides, players still get training minutes assigned to them as if the game was played; something just needs to be done with Jersey sales as well.

Given that the rankings don't count the lack of stats against you, I expect this is the intended (and unfortunately least bad) alternative.

What's the other option? Your players get some made up points/rebounds/assists that skews their per game ratings artifically high or low? Players who don't play in game 1 receive jersey sales based on last year, which can then be (ab)used by teams to deliberately avoid playing players in a rough/away game 1 matchup to get their big money from last season's full season rankings instead?

I would make an adjustment to your suggestion:
Players who receive minutes in a game 1 win by forfeit receive jersey sales based on last year.

That said, this may not be the best way to address it, but it's better than what's happening now. I just know that the current 0 jersey sales needs fixing.
We have a great community of BBers who can come up with a fair solution. Right now my goal is mainly to bring visibility to this issue and come to a consensus that this edge case is not currently being handled correctly.
