HGL-PL (HGL-Promotion/Participation League) info post 2/2 for Season 6 of HGL:

On this Season 6, HGL-PL is played either with round robin format (meaning every team faces each other once), playoff-format (single-elimination style matches), or combination of both, or with another format. I think round robin would be best format, especially unless there are very big number of participating teams, and/or if one participating team is miles apart from their competition. This is due to the fact that would provide most fair solution to all and also clear and easily defineable ranking order of teams.

((So to compile; in further Seasons, it's possible to use either round robin-format, playoff-format (one match to decide winner at each stage), or a mix of both (depending on number of teams willing to participate)).

The points that would speak in behalf of combining both systems in further Seasons, (first playoff among weakest teams, to see which team(s) will get access to actual HGL-PL round robin, etc.) are that we could keep the games as meaningful/as even as possible (and avoid most of those 65 point blowouts), and also if there would be plenty of teams, the token usage for round robin-format HGL-PL could become an issue to some)).

Situations in which we could use "a mixed league format" for HGL-PL could be for example if there is one team that is so much better than all else, so that other teams could play either round robin or preferably playoffs-matches against each other, and then this one clearly most expensive team would face them in a single playoff-match, to decide ranks 1 and 2 of HGL-PL on that Season.
However, this would make it harder to create ORSR (Official Regular Season Rankings) for HGL-PL than playing round robin, so in that sense round robin would also be preferable.

Ranking similar to Official Regular Season Rankings (ORSR) used in HGL will be created after the HGL-PL has finished, and the result of most recently played HGL-PL is used when inviting teams to further Seasons of HGL, in the case (now or then) current HGL team:
- decides to withdraw voluntarily
- causes a penalty through their actions (or being inactive/non-communicative in important matters especially during critical times of the Season) that will cause them to lose their place in HGL for the next Season.

Note though, that replacements won't be done in a middle of any given Season (after first Regular Season match of HGL has been played on each Season).

See next post for HGL-PL (that is played during HGL Season 6)

- schedule, and
- league table.

Schedules and my box score post have now been published on HGL Scores Season 6 Official Thread.

Please create an own box score post for your team, by responding to this post: (332268.22).

Like normally, you edit it as needed, and add match links to it when matches have been created by you and your opponents.
Again, if you have # in front of your team name in schedule posts (17 Rounds of matches), it's your responsibility to send the correct Pickup match challenge.

As usual, some essential instructional posts and posts including team links and official match times can be found already (links below), even though Season 6 Threads are still under construction:

What everyone who participates to Season 6 of HGL needs to do now-post: (332268.19).

Announcement 29.7.2026: We're ready to organize all Regular Season matches for HGL Season 6-post: (332268.2).

Links to participating teams-pages for easy match challenging, and official HGL match times for each team: (332268.18).

I have now sent a match offer/request to all of you, and this is the correct match time for HGL Season 6.
Send and accept Pickup matches only at this same time you see our match (vs. Wagner College) match taking place.

Everybody playing on HGL Season 6, please proceed to match organizing process immediately, as we have only 12 days until Season 6 starts.

If you have questions, please send me BBMail or ask them on HGL Threads.

Hi everyone, I tried to send invitations through my phone, yet every single one got wrong. I strongly suspect there's some bug involved, for the mistake is consistent: 14.30 (Italy's, where I'm now, time) turns into 16:30. I may try once again, yet I strongly ask everyone to check my invitations twice.

The craziest thing, I was double checking for my invitations to be 14:30 Italy time, then they somehow turned out as 16:30, and now I see them as 14:30, once again. Travelling across time zones seems to be a complete mess!

These kind of problems with manager in question traveling out of their teams' own time zone have actually been reported by other managers as well earlier. We had some speculation earlier with some of the managers why this might happen, but I can't recall what was the "most probable cause" that we ended up with - for now it's safe to just simply agree with what you said; it's unfortunately a complete mess when you happen to travel.

It's good that you sent everyone heads up though, that your match offers might be wrong.

However, I suspect some might not read that and just accept offers as they think "it must be correct time as he sent the offer to me" (which of course is not the right procedure from a team accepting the challenge, like everyone should already know).

Like MrJ also asked, is it possible to delay sending/accepting your match offers ever so slightly, so that you would've already had time to return to your home country by then? Of course you are not forced to respond to such private kind of question, but that was also the most surefire solution I could come up with with such a short notice.

@all HGL managers:

I hope you've all got your match organizing process "rolling" already - we don't have all that much time at all to get all matches organized (and then inspected for correctness, which actually takes way more time than you might think), so let's get things rolling (in the case someone hasn't really even started the match organizing process)!

On a lighter note, now that you've visited HGL teams' team "websites" (when sending PU challenges to teams), as some of us HGL managers are Supporters, us HGL teams do have quite a selection of nice/stylish logos (and banners), don't you guys think? :)
I guess everyone's got their own favorite of all available HGL participants' logos, but I'll just repeat myself here - many of them look quite nice!
In some way it would be cool to organize voting for best logo, but on the other hand it's extremely subjective thing, and it might make someone feel gutted if they wouldn't succeed in it (the voting).

@all HGL managers, about last Season's relegation/promotion voting:

Speaking of voting, the actual, official, important HGL voting on Season 5 ended 8 votes to 8, like some of you might remember.

Two teams that did not vote (nor would've their vote probably shouldn't count, as they are not participating to Season 6, should've they even voted), were Hårdboll and Club Trouville.

In it we were voting about whether or not to subject the team finishing last on league table after Regular Season to a relegation threat (and therefore allow best HGL-PL to face them on relegation/promotion final).

Like mentioned, it was a draw with 8 votes for yes and 8 votes for no.
I voted "no" for change (meaning current system would be continued). Like you've seen, places to HGL can (and likely will) become open by managers withdrawing and/or by becoming dismissed.

Honestly I forgot to take this again into discussion already earlier, as it would've been more convenient to be able to tell this to HGL-PL teams prior to entering HGL-PL what's the name of the game. Season 6 is approaching fast now though.
While this announcement comes late, it's better now than it would've been, if Season 6 would've already started.

Therefore I'll now have to decide, that due to a draw on voting in question (and my vote on "no change") teams won't be dropped out of HGL (in other words, facing a relegation threat) due to bad success during HGL Season 6 Regular Season.

As both of teams entering the league, M.L.S. REICH and San Fernando VR, are on the lighter side of the top8-player budget, voting could've/probably would've turned into a "no for a change" anyway, should they have felt threatened for their league position due to a possible rule change.
