Season 72:

We are going to play the World Cup.
It's going to be tough, as usual, but I'll do my best to rack up a few wins.

In the coming days, I will sort out and identify all the South African players likely to join the NT sooner or later.

To kick off the season, the defense captain Motlatsi Maree decided to invite the whole team to play a scrimmage in Canada, next Monday.

If you need advice during the season, my mailbox is always open.

Ooh, it’s going to be nice to be in the World Cup and it’ll be interesting to see how Maree and SA team fare vs the Canadian NT.

The game was played in your arena in Canada, but against Ireland, and we won by a wide margin, 115-73: (84270)

I must admit that I was expecting stronger opposition.
I tried a few new things, but I'm not sure I can draw many conclusions from them.

Our strong shooting made things easier: 45-86, including 9-17 from 3-point range.
We put on a great defensive performance and dominated the boards.

MOTM: Anuiyelewa Nthite with 25 points (10-20) and 6 rebounds in 24 minutes.

The real competition will begin next week and that will be a whole different story!

We lost our 1st World Championship game 94-116 against the USA: (84325)

Despite the final score difference, I'm not so unhappy with the result.

We turned the ball over too much and our defense struggled against their outside shooters.

The positives were our shooting efficiency (41-95) and our dominance on the boards (+9 rebounds).

I chose to use position switches on offense, and it turned out to be pretty interesting.

MOTM: Tyumzashe Saruchera filled up the stat sheet with 21 points (9-17), 8 rebounds and 8 assists.

The next opponent will be Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bosnia beat us 122-109 tonight: (84328)

Our excellent 3-point shooting (16-35, .457) wasn't enough to overcome Bosnia's dominance in the paint: 55 rebounds to 36 and a high 2-point percentage. We also committed more turnovers than our opponent.

MOTM: Moyo Mosili finished with 34 points (11-23, including 5-11 from 3-point range), 2 rebounds and 5 assists.

Next Monday, we will face Spain, 3rd in the world ranking.

As usual, the World Cup is very complicated for our national team.

My motivation for writing summaries is obviously less. Sorry.

After many defeats, we finally won our 1st game last night against Mexico 103-84: (85028)

For once this season, we performed on both sides of the court.

MOTM: Stan Watkins was the top scorer with 32 points (12-19, including 4-8 from long range).

Special mention to our captain of the defense, Motlatsi Maree, who reigned in the paint with 13 rebounds, 7 blocks and 3 steals.

The competition will end next Monday with a game against Chile #9.

We closed out the World Cup with a 103-90 win over Chile: (85030)

MOTM: Tyumzashe Saruchera scored 18 points (8-13), grabbed 6 rebounds, and dished out 2 assists.

This 2nd consecutive win allows us to finish 14th out of 16 in the final standings.
