Season 74 Update: Salaries, Hoarding Tax, Training and Our Next Steps
Following your feedback, we have reviewed the changes announced during the last off-season. Here is what will apply in Season 74:
- Salary formulas: We will return to the formulas used in Season 72 and earlier
- Hoarding tax: The threshold will not be reduced to 15 million.
- 3–2 zone: The planned nerf will not be implemented.
- SB training: The change allowing SB training to include some IS training will remain.
- Elastic effect: The reduction will remain. Its impact has been relatively small, and we will continue to monitor it.
We have also begun preliminary work on new salary formulas, with the help of a group of experienced and knowledgeable BuzzerBeater managers. We will share meaningful findings with the community as this work progresses.
Long-Term Planning and Future Changes
At its core, BuzzerBeater is a game built around long-term planning. Whether you are managing your team's finances, training a player or building a championship-winning roster, your decisions often depend on plans made many seasons in advance. Updates to the game should respect that commitment.
The changes introduced during the last off-season were intended to improve BuzzerBeater, but we rushed their implementation and did not give managers enough time to prepare. We take responsibility for that. Our approach did not respect one of the game's most important principles: long-term planning should be rewarded.
We still believe that the salary formulas and the wider economy have underlying issues that need to be addressed. However, we have decided to step back and reconsider our approach.
Our immediate focus will be on the beta of the new website and on making it an enjoyable experience for both veteran and new managers.
Shortly after the new website moves out of beta and launches as the official version, we will publish a roadmap outlining our priorities and goals for the years ahead.
After the official launch, we will also review the economy as a whole, including the salary formulas. Future changes will be guided by fresh aggregate data, community feedback and collaboration with you.
Your feedback has already shaped the decisions announced here, and it will remain an essential part of this process.
We recognize that some managers were affected more than others. We discussed possible compensation, but concluded that it would create further unfairness among the managers affected. For that reason, we will not be offering compensation.
We are sorry for letting you down. We will apply the lessons from this experience to future updates, with greater care for the time and planning you invest in BuzzerBeater.
