OK - it is time for us to put our thoughts together and figure out how to beat MM. Granted, this may only serve to help him learn what his weakness are, and how we plan to attack him . . .. but I think it will be worth it. (Actually, that is kinda the point -- to work together to help both MM get better AND help us get better by analyzing him and hopefully looking at our own teams.)

On Sunday (tomorrow) I will edit this post with my thoughts on his strengths, weaknesses, tendencies and how we can beat him. Please join in helping us slay this dragon (or helping him get to D.III and out of here!!!).

Mr. Mathews, given your current salary you appear to be kicking quite a lot of arse in D.III and saving up some sweet change. Nice!

It is true, I tried to force all of my players to don the glorious look that is the mustache. Sadly, they boycotted and I caved. If only my players had mustaches, they would be unstoppable!

thanks. I have been pleased with my performance so far. My goal was just not to get relegated, but I am in the playoff picture. I've been watching the transfer market closely, but I've been pretty picky as to who I am going to sign. If they aren't willing to worship Pelor they can't be one of my Clerics. ;)

will probably try to sneak into the playoffs this season and make a big move in the offseason after i've saved up some more cash.

OK - where was I before I was rudely interupted by responsibility . . . OH YES!

My overall concern with MM is that they are strongly balanced . . . which has allowed him to both adapt his offense to the weaknesses of an opponent. Additionally, he has enough offensive weapons that you cannot shut down his guards or his bigs without the other doing some damage. Now, looking at the 'positive' side of that . . . this is no one area that MM is completely dominant either.

Strengths - rebounding and inside scoring appear to the strengths inside. Brasky manages enthusiasm very well (maybe 3 games played about TIE over the past 2 seasons). Guards are well rounded - for the most part.

Weaknesses - As much strength as rebounding and IS are . . . I would guess that ID is averaging about 10 across his front line. There may be a prolific in there . . . but I would guess a proficient as well. Also, while the guards are well rounded, they are not overly strong defensively. Again, a guess would be an average in the tremendous range . . . which is very good, but not 'great'.

So where does that leave us? First, you absolutely cannot miss many shots against MM becuase the rebounding is so strong most misses result in a 'one and done' on the offensive end. Therefore, one option is to simply try to outgun him with very strong shooters. I believe inside or outside would work . . . but offensive flow is key, and making shots is a must. Assuming his front line averages prominent ID . . . best bet for an attacking front line would be a C, PF and SF with AT LEAST tremendous IS (and that is if you have the same enthusiasm and gameshape). To use an inside attack, the guards would need strong passing as well - because the guards are just good enough to make enough steals to limit inside chances.

An outside attack could work as well - particularly if you have good rebounding inside that can contend with Ybarra and Perez on the boards. Again, the outside shooters would need to have JS of at least Sensational . . . higher if the inside playes are not monsters on the boards.

(As a side note: one thing that a lot of BB managers have done is buy / develop a key player who can slip into the SF position. Across BB, the SF position is the most difficult to develop. Therefore, some managers will slip a very stong player into the SF position and they will run wild. The most concerning thing about MM's Cup game tonight is how Ronsisvalle shut down Serre at SF. Serre had his lowest ratng in 20 games and was held to 4 of 14 from the field. That was a concern . . .)

Another potential strategy for beating MM is to throw as strong a defense as possible at him. Make your defense so good that you force a gamein the 50's. This formula was followed last season by Fern Creek. Fern Creek does not have the top offense in the world . . . but they have, and especially last season in DIV had an exceptional defense. They shut down Mustache Men in the regular season and in the Finals last season winning their games with scores of 76, 79, and 67. Even the game they gave up on the road, MM only scored 69 in their win.

So . . . all we have to do is build IS, JS and passing to sensational in 4 players, play all our games TIE and pray.

Maybe it would just be easier to wait until next season?

So, do those mid-season transfers mean you think you've figured something out, or did you decide it was easier to wait until next season?

And having just played MM -- ouch.
