I was just wondering what managers in the USA thought was necessary in D.5,4,3,2,1 defensive in order to compete as well as to win. For example, I've heard that in order to be competitive in D.5 in USA having Def mediocre at least in whatever position your having them play, and Respectable to Win D.5.

What are the other division defense requirement and is that a fair assessment of D.5? I know a ton of other things go into play, but as a guideline for buy and obtaining new players.

Would D.4 be like Strong to contend and prominent to win?

It sounds like it may depend on the league, but please post what you have found works in your divisions you played in.
Thanks

We have a lot of great outside shooters. Unfortunately, we play all our games indoors.

Personally, I dont play anyone less then strong defense regardless of what division.

D.V-Strong
D.IV- Prolific
D.III- Tremendous
D.II- Marvelous
NBBA- Stupendous

I like defense so those ratings could vary

Tremendous will get you gutted in D3. Now some of the players you throw out there may have tremendous on the low end...maybe sensational if you are a backup big, but you better have some guys better than 13 in OD or you will struggle. At least I know that is true in III.3 and III.2 when I was there.

That is very interesting because ive seen players with even worse defebse but do perfectly fine. Guess it all really depends on your league.

Lol I have never had anything close to that, sometimes good use of zones and a strong offense can overcome a lack of defense at certain positions, but for the most part defense will win you games and help you promote.

Yes i know...i like defense myself. Im just saying i have seen some players on teams with worse. Even for my team, which i am in D.III I would love to have all starters between 14-16 but sometimes you just have to make do with what you have and have good gameplanning.

Based on my experience, as a manager and as a scout, this is what you need

Div 5. OD-8 ID-9
Div 4. OD-10 ID-11
Div 3. OD-13 ID-14
Div 2. OD-16 ID-16
Div 1. OD-18 ID-18

The reason ID is higher is because it is so much harder to stop an elite scoring big man, say 15 IS, than an elite scoring guard, say 14 JS 10 JR. Others will disagree with that, but there is a reason why all the great NT's, and B3 tams run LI. It's because it's so much harder to stop. That and 2-3 isn't as good as 3-2 (however not broken...)

I wouldn’t say there’s a clear cut requirement in any division, it depends on your particular league and how you choose to develop your team.

For the record, I’ve never owned a player with inside defense above prominent.

It sounds like knowing tactics and how that works into your team trumps skill requirements

The level of defense that is needed is really dependent on your league and on your offense. If you only score 80 points you might need prominant for DV, while a DV team that scores 110 points a game might only need strong to be competitive. So there is no requirement of defense that you need.
