Power Rankings Week 1

1. Beasts Red – 2-0
It was a stellar first week for the Beasts having no trouble dispatching the new teams to the league. They look the team to beat early, with Dong Hanping leading the competition in rebounds with 20.0 RPG. However the punters will want to see those kind of performances over some of the leagues other top teams before they bet on the early frontrunners.

2. Be High – 2-0
It is only early days, but Be High have come out strong to start the season with comprehensive wins over newly promoted Ndoiya and a handy 15 point win against another Great 8 hopeful in Sammydog.

3. Zed’s Army – 2-0
The Army have had a promising week with big victories over rivals CRE Towers, while a second win over Morning Glory have two of their challenging fixtures out the way early and may be looking at a finals tilt. They were led this week by their main man Klaudiusz Pabich with 34.5 PPG.

4. Saintstars – 2-0
Demoting from division 2 the Saintstars haven’t struggled to adapt so far taking down the ever dangerous CRE Towers for one of their victories to open the campaign. Will they be able to keep up with the other top Great 8 teams is the question.

5. Gisborne Gladiators – 2-0
The Gladiators also seem to have no trouble in the first week with 2 relatively elementary wins over the poor Dreamers and the still raw Thunder. The have been spurred on early by Gniewosz Sznajder who has averaged 27.0 PPG in the first week.

6. Wagadugu Hippopotamuses – 2-0
The Hippos have made some roster changes, although have still found the strength to greb some big wins, to sit in 3rd position in the Big 8. The Hippos will be looking forward to their cup games to try and match their top 16 performance last season in the Cup.

7. Mad Rangas – 1-1
The Rangas are expecting big things this season and were one of the early favourites for promotion. However the first week threw a curveball with the soon to be bot Spartans beating the TIEing Rangas in round 1. Although the Rangas got back on their feet with a massive 58 point win. They will be looking for a 2-0 week next week to re-confirm their claim for the title.

8. Orange Spartans – 1-1
It’s unusual to see a likely bot at 8th in the power rankings so early on, however the un-managed Spartans stole a win against the Rangas and only fell 12 points short of the powerful Hippos. Hard to see them keeping this pace.

Power Rankings Week 1 (cont'd)

9. Bengal Tigers – 1-1
The Tigers despite being below SammyDog on the ladder were more impressive this week than Sammy. The Tigers played reasonably against a Great 8 favourite in the Saintstars despite a loss, and managed to grab a tight 5 point win over the also newly promoted Ndoiya.

10. SammyDog – 1-1
SammyDog had an up and down week, a team that mate the PO’s last season and are expected to improve on that and take one of the top positions in the Great 8. However only a small win over the AWOL Glory and a crushing 15 point loss to leaders Be High has them a little off the pace early. Although their man Xiang Kuancai leads the league with 35.0 PPG and 14.5 APG. He has been the standout early, however he will need more help if his team is to challenge the leaders.

11. Morning Glory – 0-2
These last few are basicall in PD order with the Glory only looking a chance to beat SammyDog early. But with news that the Glory will be shutting down and now only haveng 3 players, don’t expect to see them up in 11th next week.

12. CRE Towers – 0-2
The Towers have had an ordinary start to the season, however having played 2 of the 2-0 teams they haven’t been disgraced. Expect them to improve next week.

13. Ndoiya – 0-2
Ndoiya sit bottom of the Great 8 courtesy of a big loss to leaders Be High. However a narrow loss to fellow promoted side the Bengal Tigers, they do show promise. With their 20 y/o Ding Cikun being scouted by the Chinese U21 NT, it will only be a matter of time before they pick up their first win.

14. Tilly Thunder – 0-2
The Thunder have had a hard welcome to div 3, however they have face some very strong teams in the Beasts and Gladiators. They were unlucky against the Gladiators, staying close only to be blown out in the last. The Thunder who play the Rangas next up could be 0-3, after that it can only get easier as they begin to face teams around them on the table.

15. Tamworth Cowboys – 0-2
There wasn’t a whole lot between the Cowboys and Thunder this week, with the Cowboys also being dealt two of the top teams in the first week. Not a lot can be taken from this week for them. They will look forward to next week where they are also faced with another tough team in the Gladiators. Expect them to have very much the same start as the Thunder.

16. Skyhook Dreamers – 0-2

Lastly the Dreamers were alright against the Gladiators but were smacked about the court by the Rangas and are already a whopping -75 PD. It will be interesting if Chan can improve the team next week.

I can't agree with these ratings at all, the Great 8 teams should be at 5th at best.

I voted for the Rangas. Sorry Neeber but too many chokes in the finals. As long as Gab Wall can stay on the court the Rangas are the team to beat.

no doubt those will change when the Great 8 teams begin to lose pace

Sorry Neeber but too many chokes in the finals.

You dont have to be sorry mate, I agree with you that i may not be the best in the final series. I mean i have been in the QF at minimum since I got to this league 4 seasons ago, so not being able to promote could look bad. But the previous 4 teams to promote were:

1. South Victorian Minstarls (I was knocked out by the Dons - Knocked out by SVM) - QF
2. The Dons (Again knocked out by the Dons - Champion) - SF
3. Many Men (Knocked out by yourself - Runner Up) - SF
4. ACT Blaze (Knocked out by the Blaze - Champion) - GF

Having a looking at that kind of final series shows that I have had some really tough competition. And have only made the GF once in my 4 seasons of III.12, but I still do think we are definately one of the hardest DIV III's to get out of (barring our rivals at III.6). But this year I am feeling ALOT more confident about my chances but this is based on 3 main points.

1. Making the Grand Final (I know this sounds derp but let me explain below)
2. I can manage properly in the later half of the season.
3. I feel it is the strongest team I have had since I entered this League.

What I am talking about when it comes to point number 1 is that I believe that the top 4 sides of of the Blue Side can ALL beat Be High. Not to say anything against him but to me he just hasn't been impressive over the past few seasons (although he could prove me wrong this season round). I believe that whoever makes the GF from our conference this season will promote.

That is my say on the matter, but talk is talk. I will let my Beasts prove it

Neeber

P.S. Oh and Bains.....A Ball for you sir!

When the Beasts Roar all in the way shall be struck down!!!!!

great stuff bainsy :D tonight determines how we look next week.. if we win the cup, then next week will be just as bad, if not worse than this week, if we are eliminated, we will focus on league games :D

the only way i could have played a worse team against rangas, was 3-4 players only :D

it is a shame for be high.. off to a great start, and look to be going bot :( hasnt been seen for over 2 weeks.

Wow... thank you Mr Hippo. :)
I'm quite nervous at this point in time.
I need to either get the right purchase before my game against Neeber, and aim to finish first overall OR i need to save all season and buy a serious game winner for the finals.

and yeah i think Blue side should own 1 - 4 at the very least.... maybe 5th too.

cheers mate.

i know exactly what you are talking about. if i was to win the conference final i would expect an easy finals series.

with saintstars looking to go bot, MG going bot, Be High not logging in, also may be a bot.

who does that leave Sammy, Zed's and CRE, come on if we cant beat them we dont deserve to promote.

can't wait till some big games come around

Think I heard this statement earlier today, over coffee... :)

Well at this point in time I disagree with ya hippo, Beasts is by far the strongest, having said that Ranga has some coin I believe and if his team starts to gel should be able to battle as you and Neebs did last time round, blow for blow..

Bains is still my dark horse, SG to come if he knuckles down hard and gets a quality SG could compete with both Rangas and Beasts. Strategy on the blue side will be critical this season, very exciting to watch from the sidelines, glad I am not having to battle for it!
