Previously on the NBA show!
- Kevin Durant finally won his ring, but it's plastic and he's still a snake. Zaza added himself to the list of snakes too.
- Cleveland proved once and for all that the salary cap doesn't actually exist, because they can still sign whoever they want despite being way over this alleged cap.
- Chicago may well have beaten Boston if not for the Rondo injury, but they decide to tank instead of building on it.
- Speaking of Boston, they paid a kings ransom for some flat earth lunatic. This doesn't have the potential to backfire at all.
- Westbrook activated god mode last season but didn't have enough support. He now has that support thanks to Sam Presti inheriting said god mode.
- Harden led the league in assists, but Houston decides to trade for another point guard. This doesn't have the potential to backfire at all.
- Hello, Embiid? "Embiid broke." Understandable, have a nice time tanking/trading for the #1 pick again.
- Otto Porter got paid. I believe he is the most underrated player in the league right now, but perhaps Washington could've done better.
- A crazy bastard spoke his son's arrival into existence, and has some people convinced that spending $495 on one pair of shoes is a good idea. It's not.
- Anthony Bennett is still employed.
In the east, I can picture a closer contest between the Cavaliers and Celtics, as whilst the latter lost depth this off-season, they did bring in Hayward, and have young talents that could potentially have a breakout season.
For this same reason, I see the Bucks as a sleeper team. For them, a lot hinges on if Giannis can improve his jump shot, and if Parker can return from his ACL injury with a bang and not a whimper. East is looking pretty weak though aside from these teams, Toronto, and Washington.
In the west, San Antonio had game 1 wrapped up until Zaza kicked Leonard's leg out of his leg. The Spurs added Rudy Gay this season, and as long as Pau Gasol doesn't hit the wall this season I can definitely see them pulling off the upset next time if everyone, especially Leonard, stays healthy.
We know that Houston and OKC will be good too, and Minnesota should be able to make that jump, but my sleeper pick would be the Pelicans. The Davis/Cousins duo fell flat last season, but now they've had a chance to build some team chemistry and perhaps make it work this time around.
In any case, here's hoping that this season is less of a foregone conclusion than the last one...
