Other teams to follow for HCA:
Peru
Uruguay (plays Ecuador on 1st round)
Ecuador (see above)
Brasil

Because Uruguay plays Ecuador, a win is mandatory in the first round, after that we just need to have the same results (W or L) as the american teams still in play

Edit: If we win the first game, we play against the winner or Uruguay/Ecuador, so a win in the 2nd round is mandatory as well

I'll reveal myself as an international BB newcomer here, but I wanted to ask about the interplay between the various international tournaments.

We have the World Championships, the Consolation Tournament, and the America's Championship as the main tournaments I think?

Clearly the WC is the ultimate goal for any U21 team. How does a team qualify for the WC? I'd guess that winning either the Consolation or the continental tournament would do it, but is there any other mechanism?

What determines which teams go to the Consolation tournament? Is it only those knocked out of the continental tournaments? On another note, what is the significance of the Consolation tournament for the teams who don't win it? You mention HCA, how does the Consolation tournament influence HCA and for what?

Lastly, and I've only just seen this, what is the WC Repechage? What determines the teams that participate in it? What do the winners of it get? What happens to the losers?

Perhaps some of these questions are silly and overlap but, as I noted in the beginning, I am pretty much the definition of a noob to international BB competitions so any help would be appreciated!

Cheers!

There's no direct path from the consolation tournament to the world champs.

The best ranked continental team in the consolation tournament (i.e. the team that goes the furthest, for the Americas it's often getting to the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs, for Europe it basically means winning the consolation tournament) hosts the next season continental championship.
The winner and finalist of the continental championship go directly to the world champs, the semi finalists and 3rd place teams in the 2nd round group go to the repechage. In the repechage tournament, only the best team in groups of 4 goes to the world championship, the other 3 go to the consolation tournament first phase, but start with a 0-2 record as the other teams in the consolation already played 2 games by that point.
Every other team not listed here (i.e. placed 4th and below in the second round of the continental championship) go directly to the consolation tournament the next season.

Hope that clears things up!

And yes if you're not the best placed continental team in the consolation tournament, you get nothing. The only thing you can gain in the consolation tournament is hosting the next season continental champs, which can be the difference between winning it and finishing third or in the semi finals.
