To be honest, you could probably pick up better trainees for very little cash now as it's just after the draft.

Aim for 18 year olds, with average-respectable in at least a couple of their positions main skills. Allstar+ potential is good, but slightly lower is still trainable to start with.

Well I wouldn't yet buy a trainee. With your current squad you should be able to win your league. I would train Aubry for the rest of the year and scout lots. With the money you have right now you should buy a player with probably 7-8 k salary. Besides you probably do not have enough money to buy a good trainiee yet. So scout lots, buy a servicable player, train Aubry, and trim your roster down to about 12-13 players.

Dont scout if you think you're going to win your league, you will get last pick anyway.

cheers

to be honest i never really considered the possibility of winning my league first up! maybe i will wait a few games before deciding on scouting.
I think i will: check out the transfer list, if as you say a good trainee may be too costly, i will go for an older guy with decent skills.

will also take pleasure in firing a few duds!

thanks for the help

I agree with DonutDunker. I'd work with what you've got. Aubry is a decent trainee, I would keep him and make him your first training project. And Canales isn't a terrible prospect. Outside defense is a good skill and he's starting at respectable (the highest level), with "allstar" potential which is plenty for a new team, and most of the important guard skills are at least "mediocre". He might show some results if you can work him in to a tandem training with Aubry at PG/SG or SG/SF, and get his jump shot up. With a Level 4 trainer you'll see some improvement in both players even at age 20. If nothing else, you'll get the hang of training.

If new teams should be shopping for anything on the transfer list, it's cheap veterans.

He's in a crappy league there will most likely not be a human picking in front of him.
