Power Rankings Week 2
1. (1) Beasts Red – 4-0 (2-0)
The Beasts continue to marshall the division with a perfect record again in week 2. Hanping continues to be a monster on the boards sitting second in that category with 17.2 RPG. Being 4-0 is a great start, however the next 2 weeks is going to tell just how strong the Beasts are.
2. (4) Saintstars – 4-0 (2-0)
The Saintstars look to be the favourites to take out the Great 8 after crushing one of their contenders in Be High by 23. Their strength so far has to be credited to their scoring power, with Arroyo averaging the 2nd most points with 24.3 PPG, and Schurmann 4th averaging 22.0 PPG.
3. (5) Gisborne Gladiators – 4-0 (2-0)
The Gladiators were outstanding this week with two 30+ wins, one over the winless Cowboys and the other over the potentially dangerous Spartans. They have been led by the passing ability of their dynamic Russian PG Igor Zakharov, who is averaging the 2nd most assists with 8.2 APG.
4. (7) Mad Rangas – 3-1 (2-0)
The Rangas steadied the ship this week with wins over the Thunder and the Cowboys. The introduction of Polish SF Andrzej Dorota, looks to have solved the issues they might have had in the first week. But like the Beasts and Gladiators, they are yet to play the strong teams.
5. (6) Wagadugu Hippopotamuses – 3-1 (1-1)
The Hippos have stated that the cup will be their baby this season, so they were always going to drop a few league games here and there. That was largely the case this week, with a big win over the Dreamers, followed by a loss to the Thunder. It was a result of resting players and saving enthusiasm for their cup game. It will be tough going in week 3 for the Hippos.
6. (2) Be High – 3-1 (1-1)
Be High had an up and down week smashing Zed’s Army by 30+ before feeling what it is like to be on the other side of that kind of a result, being flogged by Saintstars and dropping to 2nd in the Great 8.
7. (10) Sammydog – 3-1 (2-0)
Sammydog sits 3rd in the Great 8, however sit so low in the power rankings as they have only scraped through in a few of their wins. A big win over the Tigers, to go along with a last quarter comeback win over CRE Towers, sees them with a 2-0 week. They have leaders in assists and rebounds with Kuancai having 11.2 APG and Giddy averaging 19.2 RPG.
8. (3) Zed’s Army – 3-1 (1-1)
The army got a shock this week dropping to 8th in the power rankings after a disappointing 37 point loss to Be High, especially after putting in more effort. Surprisingly the Army haven’t been led by Pabich, they were led by league leading scorer Vaclavs Lapsinš-Lapsa with 24.5PPG.
