Just got back from a week in Quebec City...

Congrats LPP! Simply untouchable that game and for most of your tourney!
Would have loved a cup win for personal reasons, but knew it was a longshot!

Have a great rest of the season.

Hey thanks everybody! It has been quite awhile since winning the cup. The last win was the first season that we changed the cup name to Kumiko Cup. Let us always remember her.

I'm definitely in the camp of keeping the name as is, I never thought of it as a temporary name either.

agreed
but someone should do an official backstory for Kumiko, i think the history and tribute to her is being lost as the old guards are slowly leaving the game

Kumiko was a woman that was pretty active in the forums and was also online a lot in the chat forum while our team's played. She'd like to chat quite a bit on there as I was also online watching my game and chatting with other Canadians at the same time. She made it to Naismith where our 2 teams battled once or twice (cup games) a season and we'd just have fun trash talking together. Because of this activity many other Canadian managers got to know her, at least in a buzzerbeater sense.

Kumiko was generally online each day so it became a bit disturbing when she suddenly became inactive for a few weeks. That's when we got the worst news that we could imagine. Her husband was able to access her account and left a forum about her passing. Apparently she was suffering from an illness that basically would keep her at home quite often. If I remember correctly she was around her mid 20's after a long battle with that illness. We were never given the info of the disease but at least for myself, it didn't really matter what name you would give it. After learning this a few managers including myself brought up the idea of renaming the Canada Cup to the Kumiko Cup. RiP brought this idea up to the other game managers and within a short time the Cup's name was changed.

And was a very active manager of the U21 team for a long time. I think her work there was able to revitalize interest in the U21, and I'm sure was able to get new teams involved as well.

On the contrary, I'm very fond of the cup name.
