Well, in my mind boxing out is a rebounding thing, it's not a defensive thing (you still try and box out if you're going for an offensive rebound, it's just harder to do) and i do believe that boxing out is a part of rebounding in game mechanics as well.

Maybe that's where the confusion was coming in to it?

Either way, to try and put some sort of a summary on things (or at least my view on them) there are probably a lot of factors for offensive rebounding in particular with rebounding skill being the major winner by far but shot selection, opponents rebounding skill, players position on the court when the shot goes up, even stamina later in the game would all come in to play i'd say. The only one that you can really control here is rebounding though.

You're right, boxing out is what's confusing me. In reality a major factor to boxing out is the strength of the player, and his positioning sense. Neither of those are there in this game - maybe the physicality attribute is there, but from what I've read on the forums thats far from certain. I'm quite sure there is a 'tendency to foul' hidden attribute but if that's the same thing as the physicality variable I don't know. And positioning would probably require another separate hidden variable, what else could it depend on - inside defence, experience?

It seems to me that unless one knows exactly how the game is coded one can only guess at factors like boxing out. So it makes sense to go with what's known for sure - the rebounding ability.

Thing is just the rebounding ability didn't seem to explain how my SF bagged the same no. of offensive rebounds as my center whilst he was pulling down half the no. of total rebounds compared with the center. But I realised after what someone mentioned earlier (I think that was you) that it might be a defence thing - I have played 3-2 zone a few times which would mean the SF has lesser chance at getting defensive boards. Add to that the random factor and I have myself an explanation.

Maybe the IS of some players, especially the SF gives the player some advantage

if a SF has a good mismatch inside he maybe gets closer to the basket more often, and maybe gets more chances of rebounding

but this is just a guess, looking at my team the ones with better RB gets more ofensive rebounds,so RB is the big factor I'd say,ID I dont think is used by the GE,you dont need to be a good defender to box out

Stamina (compare to matchup)
aggressiveness (hidden attribute)
rebounding
position on the court - wing player can get many OR if he is used in post up over smaller (weak rebounder) player

forget about ID and IS help score the ball which will only makes less miss shots.

It's funny, I've seen players with inept rebounding that average 10+ RPG. It seems to me defense has a bigger influence on rebounding than the actual rebounding stat.

First of all, there is no difference between offensive and defensive rebounding. A rebound can be either, depending on which team actually grabs the ball. And I am pretty sure that more than one skill goes into the calculation of who gets a rebound, just as more than one skill is used in just about every calculation in the game.

Keep in mind that super aggressive players also foul out quickly... (and will they get injured more often?)
I prefer "normal" players.

If you had to guess, how much weight would you give to just the rebounding skill for picking up rebounds?
