It's a tough one to call now, Bains has just shown his hand a a complete starting 5 as well.. All 3 teams are stronger than mine was last season but I am sure each one will be struggling to be making any money too :) If Ranga's can stay healthy they (on paper) seem to still be the strongest, guess we will have to see how it progresses with Ranga already behind a game.

BTW I didn't get a free ride mate, I chose to focus on the league instead of the cup and prepared my team early on for the season. I still had to play all the Blue teams albeit once instead of twice.. All in all, I am in DII and plan on staying at these dizzying heights! :)

looks like more support has come for the Beasts and the Rangas in the poll. gotta love the turnout of voters.

and god i hope the (4) other votes are from teams voting for themselves

Power Rankings Week 2

1. (1) Beasts Red – 4-0 (2-0)

The Beasts continue to marshall the division with a perfect record again in week 2. Hanping continues to be a monster on the boards sitting second in that category with 17.2 RPG. Being 4-0 is a great start, however the next 2 weeks is going to tell just how strong the Beasts are.

2. (4) Saintstars – 4-0 (2-0)

The Saintstars look to be the favourites to take out the Great 8 after crushing one of their contenders in Be High by 23. Their strength so far has to be credited to their scoring power, with Arroyo averaging the 2nd most points with 24.3 PPG, and Schurmann 4th averaging 22.0 PPG.

3. (5) Gisborne Gladiators – 4-0 (2-0)

The Gladiators were outstanding this week with two 30+ wins, one over the winless Cowboys and the other over the potentially dangerous Spartans. They have been led by the passing ability of their dynamic Russian PG Igor Zakharov, who is averaging the 2nd most assists with 8.2 APG.

4. (7) Mad Rangas – 3-1 (2-0)

The Rangas steadied the ship this week with wins over the Thunder and the Cowboys. The introduction of Polish SF Andrzej Dorota, looks to have solved the issues they might have had in the first week. But like the Beasts and Gladiators, they are yet to play the strong teams.

5. (6) Wagadugu Hippopotamuses – 3-1 (1-1)
The Hippos have stated that the cup will be their baby this season, so they were always going to drop a few league games here and there. That was largely the case this week, with a big win over the Dreamers, followed by a loss to the Thunder. It was a result of resting players and saving enthusiasm for their cup game. It will be tough going in week 3 for the Hippos.

6. (2) Be High – 3-1 (1-1)
Be High had an up and down week smashing Zed’s Army by 30+ before feeling what it is like to be on the other side of that kind of a result, being flogged by Saintstars and dropping to 2nd in the Great 8.

7. (10) Sammydog – 3-1 (2-0)

Sammydog sits 3rd in the Great 8, however sit so low in the power rankings as they have only scraped through in a few of their wins. A big win over the Tigers, to go along with a last quarter comeback win over CRE Towers, sees them with a 2-0 week. They have leaders in assists and rebounds with Kuancai having 11.2 APG and Giddy averaging 19.2 RPG.

8. (3) Zed’s Army – 3-1 (1-1)

The army got a shock this week dropping to 8th in the power rankings after a disappointing 37 point loss to Be High, especially after putting in more effort. Surprisingly the Army haven’t been led by Pabich, they were led by league leading scorer Vaclavs Lapsinš-Lapsa with 24.5PPG.

Power Rankings Week 2 (cont'd)

9. (13) Ndoiya – 2-2 (2-0)
Ndoiya were vast improvers this week with 2 solid wins to move to 5th in the Great 8, and possibly looking toward post-season action if they can grab some more wins. They were spurred on by the play of Cikun this week, who averages 19.3 PPG for the season.

10. (14) Tilley Thunder 1-3 (1-1)
The Thunder got a great first division 3 win against the strong hippos side, it required more effort and HCA, however a win is huge when you are predicted to be in a battle to avoid relegation. They played some impressive defence allowing only 55 points. Their defence might be what helps them avoid relegation. A big week coming up against the other teams battling to stay up.

11. (9) Bengal Tigers 1-3 (0-2)
The Tigers had a tough week against Sammydog and Zed’s Army. Despite both being losses, a reasonable performance against the Army keeps their PD respectable which could be vital later in the season

12. (8) Orange Spartans 1-3 (0-2)
The second week held none of the surprises of the first week with crushing losses to the Gladiators and Beasts. They unfortunately are on the precipice of going bot, and thus will be unlikely to win another game this season.

13. (12) CRE Towers – 0-4 (0-2)
The Towers have struggled to close out games again in week 2. They faded late in the 5 point loss to Sammydog. The Towers show potential to win games but lack that killer blow. Expect them to improve in the next week or two

14. (11) Morning Glory – 0-4 (0-2)

Another hard week for the Glory. Despite the announcement of a return from the management, they were unable to find their 1st win, leaving them in last in the Great 8. Will a 167k centre help them rise out of the relegation zone? Only time will tell.

15. (15) Tamworth Cowboys – 0-4 (0-2)
The Cowboys stay in 15th after another hard week. They will be looking for an easier week next week and will hope to be competitive and grab a few wins.

16. (16) Skyhook Dreamers – 0-4 (0-2)

Another poor week for the Dreamers, despite a reasonable game against the Beasts. They don’t look to be winning much anytime soon, this week will be better than the last

great stuff bainsy... when i saw our draw i knew without a doubt we would be 0-4, but i am surprised at how competitive we have been in some of our losses :D

definitely the wrong season to be re-building in, but the most positive thing about this season for the dreamers so far is all my trainees just keep getting better and better.

i still have no idea who will take the chocolates this year, but Saints might just be leading the race at the moment with their crazy weak ass draw. hippos strategy targeting the cup is interesting, as HCA could have been what cost him last season, and will be a huge factor on the blue side come playoffs

Well I don't think I can win the league this season and so may as well achieve something. I wont get as lucky with my cup draw again but I do hope to last a few rounds even if that costs me league wins.

Great write up as always bainsy but I still think the Rangas are the team to beat and their 20 point win at the Beasts arena tends to confirm that.

Tough to lose to you in overtime but it does show how much stronger you are this season than me. A pity both my starting big men fouled out early or I could have stolen that one. Still the best team won.

Here is another comparason.

Mad Rangas 111
Gisborne Gladiators 109
Wagadugu Hippopotamuses 108
Melbourne Kangaroos 107
Beasts Red 106
Brisbane Thunder 101
be high 99
Saintstars 97
Tilley Thunder 94
Skyhook Dreamers 89
Orange Spartans 84

I added in our two visitors. Rangas and Gladiators are the teams to beat and us poor Hippos are only 3rd. Saintstars are way down but do have the free ride effect.
