when is a bot team not a bot team?

the squad i play tonight is "managed by a computerized player" and has a stadium that seats 5000. but he also has two players making more than $18,000 and another one making more than $9500.

the team has been bot for some time -- the last transaction only occurred on 4 / 15 / 14 -- yet the roster never got scoured and filled with the expected no-talents. it's actually kinda weird and spooky -- like the whole team is set, unchanging, and drifting along (the guards i mentioned are in their late 30s) -- over time, entropy will triumph, and the squad will resemble the bottom 42 players on the Milwaukee Lethargy. what a terrifying fate.

anyway . . . they are just good enough to disrupt my minutes this week. this could be a long season.

Remember when a team goes bot, there are certain criteria that determine which players become FA's and leave that team....apparently those two players didn't meet that criteria, so they are stuck on the bot team. The irony is that when someone takes over that team, those players will be disappear and be replaced by the standard start up crappy roster everyone get's when they start this game.

-- only EDH has folded, and even his squad will require careful handling by the season's end.

At the end of last season I decided it was time to rebuild, the team was getting old and I felt that if anything I should do it sooner rather than later. So going into the relegation series with the only question was at what level was i rebuilding??? So yeah I threw in the towel and started shopping for some interesting players that I can play with next year....one thing about rebuilding you get a good idea of market price and what are bargains...oh yeah you get to train again, something I have found difficult in the NBBA. Good Luck to all of you and I honestly mean it as I know where I will end up at the end of the season.....and by the way my PG selection E. Johnson was a 5-5 prospect who I did have #1 on my list....

Thank goodness EDH is folding, otherwise I'd be headed to Div II. I might still be, anyway ...

Plus, EDH is my rival, so 2 wins will be great for the fan base. Wait a second, Tucumcari is now my rival !! argh !!

I have to say this is the most competitive league but my players really out-performed my expectation. I thought I was gonna be 0-4 by now.

Yea, you must have really salary efficient player builds. Despite your 3-0 record, I thought HCA would sway the game my way. I'm still waiting!

Very impressive start to your NBBA career.

i thought Houston's comeback against the Clippers was really interesting. for those who missed it, the Rockets were trailing by 19 in the 3rd period at Los Angeles, came roaring back and won by 10 points or so -- with James Harden on the bench for the final quarter. i am trying to translate that game into BB:

1) i have never been one to have stars -- it is very rare for me to have any player in the top 10 of the statistical categories. i, naturally, would like to see this as justification of team over Star as a path to winning.

2) the fact that it happened during an away game -- we have all seen / experienced collapses -- what would produce this in BB? difference in enthusiasm? GS? experience? or simply a statistical fluke?

3) Houston did it apparently with one massive defensive stud at C and a lot of hustle. maybe this is a model for a team?

i will say i would think the locker room dynamics and coaching decisions must be very difficult right now for Houston.

i rely upon BuzzerManager for guidance, and in the past i have found the team ratings to be reliable guides for how my team is performing. but this season, the relationship between getting better ratings and winning has broken down:

against the Cacti, we both got 13.9 game ratings, but my team category ratings were tilted slightly in my favor, 140 - 139. but i got blown out by 14 in the fourth and lost by 12.

against TnT, i made a tactical blunder by calling for a 2-3, and so suffered in the team ratings, 145 - 153. but my players' game ratings were up 15.3 to 14.6, and on the road, too. regardless, never in this one, and lost by 16.

in a private league game, neutral court, won the team ratings 168 -158, the player ratings, 16.5 - 16.1, but lost the game by 10.

finally, on Saturday, had a better team rating than GH, 167 - 163, a better player rating, 16.7 - 15.5, but was never really in the game, outside of a late run, and lost by 13.

my point is not shake my fist at BB gods and demand justice, but to wonder if there is a more recent generation of managers who are running very efficient, very skilled teams whose virtues elude or are otherwise not captured by my tried and true statistical categories.
