I've tried that strategy before, holding on to a huge salary at center with the hope of a quick promotion back up. If you want to know how that worked do a search for Gabriel Cardona, who I relegated down to III.1 with me, and then see how long I was in III.1 after I finally got rid of his huge salary... But good luck trying it yourself!
Anyway, I tanked out of III.1 once i realized that most of my key players were nearing the end of their primes and even promoting would have gotten me to a higher league with a very old roster. You'll notice that most of my core players are really young now, I've had two seasons of solid training down here and this will hopefully be the season that I can take my trainees up to D.III since their skills are now just about ready to be competitive there. Oh, and I can outspend anyone here many times over after that season I tanked and sold all my best players. I'm still sitting on all that cash. But I'm going to try to promote without tapping into that reserve, we'll see how confident I'm feeling about my roster after the all star game.
Don't ask what sort of Chunks they are, you probably don't want to know. Blowing Chunks since Season 4!
