Canada vs ParaguayCanadas march to glory continued in Baltic Arena as 19795 fans piled inside to catch Canadas 4th first round game of the Continental Tournament. Canada was expected to take this in a cakewalk, the fans were supposed to walk out of their with smiles sprawled across their faces, filled with joy and dreams of seeing Canada holding the Americas Championship Trophy. 19795 people walked out of that arena, exactly like that. Canada steamrolled Paraguay in an unorthodox Princeton offense that was lethal from everywhere. Canada was dropping buckets and dimes like Welker drops catches in NFC Finals. I went there. Canada was up 13 after 1 quarter with Stronks shooting 4-5 for 9 points and the game lead. In the second quarter Canadas shooters cooled down a bit, but stepped up defensively holding Paraguay to 6 points in one of the most pitiful displays of offense these fans had seen. Canada led by 28 points at halftime and Kumiko wasn't called down to do the chat. Everything was going right for the squad.
It seems Paraguay was a little embarrassed and decided to take it out on Canada. The 3rd quarter was more of the same, by the end of it they had built a 41 point lead and Stronks had scored 19 points, but Gerry Stavridis had been injured. With 10:57 left in the 3rd, he went for a driving layup and was taken down hard by Ismael Maciel Pasotti. Stavridis landed hard on his ankle, spraining it and ending his night. Canada continued to march in the 4th quarter finishing the game winning by 52 points doubling up on poor Paraguay and continuing to showcase their homecourt dominance. Stronks was the scoring leader with 29 points, adding to his already hall of fame career.
Stronks was questioned afterwards,
You played like a man possessed tonight, was that anyway linked to Kearns outdoing you last week?
"We had a gameplan and stuck to it and it led to me being on the finishing side of scoring oppurtunities. The team got the W and that's the only stat that matters."
Diant, the camera isn't recording..
"Oh. Well then yeah. That scum thinks he can win the scoring race this season? He has got another thing coming, we are typically paired together as two of the best guards for Canada and well. That's false. I am the best guard in Canada and he is my backup. He has to get that through his head. If that means I double him in scoring every game. Then so be it."
