Welcome to the Post Season 73 Preview!

For this post, I wanted to go for a short ‘franchise story’ based theme. Kinda like how real life sports will do for teams over tv broadcast for their playoffs/championships. Diving deep into each team’s history, telling a specific story. Hope you enjoy. Good luck to every team!

Hopefully Hoops
As the youngest team in the league (avg age is 22.2 yo) with the lowest roster salary (91k) in the league and only their 2nd season under Coach Sutherland ownership, Hopefully hoops got exactly what they needed. Experience. Plus 2 wins. They now know what it takes to compete at a division 3 level and hopefully they will be back as a better, more experienced version of themselves in the near future.

Bauhaus 1919
1 of 2 franchises to have started during season 70. They have yet to win a title making them 1 of 3 in the league and 1 of 2 in the Big 8 not to do so. However, they did survive season 72 relegation series in order to get another chance at D3 this season. Now, to survive yet another relegation series, 1919 will have to overcome a stacked Great 8 5th place team. Can the lowest salary (173k) team in the Big 8, again escape elimination and win another opportunity to compete at the D3 level next season
VS
Pacific Grove
One of 2 teams in division 3.5 to have been formed during season 9. As the second longest 3.5 tenured team (joined season 66) and just 1 of 4 teams to have D2 experience (all 4 teams in the Great 8) don’t expect them to just give up willingly. However, with the 3rd highest roster salary (328k), a 3rd straight year of regelations series and a avg age of 26.2, fans are asking is it time to retool or rebuild? They’ve won in D3 before, season 64 3.8. They can do it again.

Pigs
Founded in season 59, having 2 lone seasons in division 3 before now. Seasons 61 in 3.2 and 69 in 3.10 ; finally winning a D4 title in 72 4.7; Having the highest average age in the Big 8 (28.4 yo) will they drop back down to D4 to regroup now since they’ve proven to be a championship caliber franchise or is this core good enough to get a 2nd consecutive season in D3 league for the first time ever?
VS
Qmoney
21-7-1
Qmoney has spent 21 seasons in Div 4 since the franchise started in season 52. They’ve gone to 7 Div 4 finals. They’ve won 1, last season. Sitting at 6th place in the Great 8 this season. After selling their best player, can the oldest team in the league (28.5 yo avg age) cash in and win 2 more games to extend this long awaited D3 ride? With the championship experience, can Qmoney execute a series winning formula to prevent a 22nd D4 season?

Wanahukalogi
Became an official franchise in season 70, winning a D4 title in their debut season. Sporting the youngest team in the Big 8 at 23.3 avg age, the 3rd lowest salary (207k) in the league and surviving the last 2 relegation series. Is Wanahukalogi ready to do it for a 3rd time to prove they belong here or will the Great 8 depth finally put them in their place? Having a championship winning culture plus a very young core, who knows how high their potential truly is at the moment. They won 4 more games this season compared to last season. All they need is 2 more to stay in D3.
VS
Zellars
1 of 3 teams to never win a title at any level (only team in the Great 8). This is the franchises second time being in division 3, first time was season 69 in Div 3.4 ; after going 22-0 and making the semi finals in season 68 Div 4.16 ; Season 69 ended at 6-16 5th place in the Big 8 of D3.4 and they lost their regelation series. To get back to D3, Zellars went 20-2 and coming in 1st place in Div 4.19 season 72, ultimately losing the finals. Is this the season they end their “one and done” D3 years and finally make it back to back appearances or do they make yet another attempt for that elusive D4 championship?

Zebras
Fun fact, since starting in season 11, they are 1 of 3 teams to have a Div 5 title. They also have the most D3 experience since season 24. Seasons 24-47; 49-68; and 71-current. For a total of 47 out of 50 seasons played in D3. With the 2nd highest salary at 370k and 3rd oldest team (27.7 yo), Zebras have everything it takes to win at the D3 level. The only thing in their way? Is a stacked Great 8. If this is to be the season they finally obtain that long awaited D3 Trophy, it’ll be a glorious one.
VS
UofDallas
Another team at the top of the ranks in 3.5, they also have a D5 banner. Dallas have had a few runs in Div 3 before now, most recently in seasons 44-70 in Div 3.4 After going 20-2 with a PD of 610 and being in 1st place in the Big 8 in season 70, they were promoted to 2.4 for season 71, making them the only team to have D2 experience without a D3 title. Preseason rankings had them as the favorites to win the Great 8 this season. They made it to the semifinals in 72 eventually losing to the team that would go on to be crowned champions. UofD are as close as ever to finally winning a D3 title and potentially solidifying themselves as a D2 team.

Clovis Knights
The number 1 team , going 21-1 in the league this season. Preseason rankings had CK 4th out of 16. This franchise started in season 6, making them the 2nd oldest in the league. CK had their first D3 run in season 8 and their first D2 run in season 37. Having a league high with 6 D3 titles, the highest salary and the only one to be over 400k (407k) whilst an avg team age of 25.6, this top contender ranked team is primed to make a hard run for the championship this season and many more to come. With so much history in the books already, is there any room left for more? If so, a 7th D3 title could cement Clovis Knights as one of the best, if not the best, D3 franchises of all time.
VS
Corntucky Mildcats
Another team with D2 experience and 4 of their last 5 seasons have been in a D2 league. That is also the most D2 experience by any team in that same time frame. With over 300k in player salaries, the experience and a championship winning culture (1 of 3 teams to have won a D3 title; season 70 3.3) Corntucky seems to be on the right path back to D2. The question should be, when will they make it there? The Great 8 is stacked, the road to the finals will be hard. Had they been in the Big 8, they could’ve possibly been the number one seed this season.

Yoshis Army
Starting in season 67, winning a D4 trophy that same season. They have been in D3.5 for 4 seasons now and have made the playoffs in all 4 of them. Difference now? 1st place. This is arguably the best team in YA history, with a salary of 296k and avg age of 26.5 they have more years like this to come. Making it to the finals might be the easy part for them, winning against any of the Great 8 teams will come with a price. With home field advantage throughout the Big 8, does Yoshis Army have enough in the tank to win its second title ever and first at the D3 level?
VS
Sandersville Preyers
Another organization to have been formed way back in season 9. They have 5 D4 titles, by making the playoffs this season, they have finally secured their 4th straight season in D3 or higher for the first time in franchise history next season. Proving they belong in D3 for the long term. With a team salary of 275k and avg age of 24.5 this version of the Preyers is more than capable enough to compete in a weaker Big 8. Being in the playoffs is step 1. Step 2? Winning it all. Will it happen this season? Maybe.

Seattle Hypersonics
After Shock started in season 65. Playing in the Big 8 of D3.5 for season 67, getting relegated back down to D4 for season 68. After a semifinals finish in 68, After Shock changed its name to Seattle Hypersonics. Going through 3 more seasons at the D4 level, losing in the semifinals each time. Season 72 Seattle returned to the Big 8 in D3.5, 7 seasons later, only to be bounced out of the playoffs again, in another semifinals round. With a salary of 289k and an avg age of 24.8, Seattle is prepared to be a contending juggernaut for years to come. However, could this be the year that this franchise can win its 1st ever championship?
VS
Breckenridge Mogulbusters
Not only are they the oldest franchise in the league, starting in season 3 under the name Members Only. They are also the most tenured team in D3.5 joining back in season 53. 1 of 3 teams to have a D5 banner and a total of 5 D4 titles. Starting their D3 run in season 5, Breckenridge has yet to win a D3 title. After losing in the finals last season, they started this season number 1 on the preseason rankings for back to back years. 1 of 2 teams to make the playoffs for 4 straight seasons and now making it 6 seasons in a row. Having the Big 8 highest salary and the only one over 300k (311k) Avg age is 26.9 which is on the higher end, however, still in their prime. More than equipped enough to win it all in every way, could this be the year?
