Press Announcements

Singapore earned 3rd Asian HCA with miraculous comeback victory in Czech 140-137 in 3rd OT.

Manager Bigben doesn't mind Vietnam secure Asian HCA, but his players wanted it otherwise.

Down eight with two minutes to play on regulation and lost their starting Center Mah Liang Jian, Singapore were lucky to catch the game back with Ceska shooters were taking breaks. Immad Hossain feed to Wu Min Hao set the first OT.

1st OT : As Ceska shooting touch are still blunt, Singapore took the lead on the 1st OT before Vladimir Panek 3 pointer tied it 115-115 for the second OT. 2nd OT :Li Heng Lai and Hong Yao Kok brilliance dominated 2nd OT, but Singapore went sloppy, surrendered five points lead and Ceska nearly won the game until Li Heng Lai jumper at FT line tied it again for another OT. 3rd OT : This time, Singapore didn't waste anymore advantage as both Ceska starting bigmen are fouled out. Once again Li Heng Lai was huge, scoring buckets and battling for boards although registered for his 50th minutes playing. Singapore finally get a safe 138-128 lead before letting Ceska team crawling slowly back to three point game, but time has run out and Singapore players huddled each other with joys to celebrate probably their most difficult victory.

Li Heng Lai scored U21 career high 38 points, 18 rebs, 4 assists and 3 steals. Super subs George Midin filled in nicely with 26 points in 25 minutes playing. Wong Kuan Teck has 20 pts, 8 assist and 5 rebs, overpowered his coverage inside and outside.

Wu Min Hao doesn't mind playing off the bench, scored 19 pts, 10 rebs and two blocks in 44 minutes. Immad Hossain and Wong Chi Wei combined for 17 assists. Hossain almost blew the victory away as he missed lots of crucial FTs. And finally, Hong Yao Kok, although playing with sprained ankle, still managed to get 10 points over limited playing time.

And that's the last heroics performance from S33 gladiators, and they should be giving away free victory for their next opponent, Greece U21.
