Hello everyone,
I’m Baverone, former LA, former GM, and also former U21 and Senior National Team coach for Portugal.
I would like to share two ideas regarding National Teams that I believe could improve the game experience and increase competitiveness.
### 1. National Team Players Availability
In National Team games, players should always be in maximum shape and free from injuries.
This would make competitions fairer, allowing managers to use the full potential of their national teams instead of being dependent on how individual club managers handle players.
Injuries could also be ignored during National Team games, so players would not be “double punished” by:
- being unable to play for the NT;
- and also losing training minutes.
If this idea is considered too impactful, I would at least suggest an alternative:
during club friendly matches only, players should still be able to receive training minutes, even if they are injured and unable to play official games.
### 2. More Competitions for National Teams
Some years ago, I suggested that having more games and competitions for National Teams could make this part of the game more interesting and engaging.
Even though the game is naturally slow-paced, features like Private Leagues and BBM helped bring more activity and competitiveness to the community. I believe National Teams could benefit from something similar.
One possible idea would be introducing an “Olympic Games” tournament:
- Held once every year (every 4 seasons);
- Restricted to players up to 24 years old;
- Players who started the “year” at age 21 would remain eligible for the full competition.
These are still raw ideas, but I wanted to share them with the community.
Feel free to comment and share your thoughts or additional suggestions.
Best regards,
Baverone
