As it stands, players entering free agency are assigned a starting price of 10× their salary, capped at $500k. Since players are apparently never removed from the player pool (we can even see active players who are 100+ years old), I think it would be worth considering a system for high-salary players who fail to find a team and would otherwise remain permanently retired.
My suggestion would be to introduce a 25% weekly reduction in the asking price for the Free Agents.
For example, a player whose initial starting price is the maximum $500k and doesn't get purchased would return to the Transfer List the following week for $375k, where he would be listed for another 7 days. If nobody buys him again, his price would drop to around $281k, then $211k, and so on, with the price continuing to decrease by 25% each week until a team eventually signs him.
This would give these players a chance to re-enter the Transfer List at a more reasonable price instead of effectively disappearing from the game permanently.
What do you guys think about this suggestion?
