Some results stand out on HGL Season 4 Round 4:

WAG-VIV:
Some drama in this match (that was played in Lithuania for some reason ;P). VIV had a lead of points before 4th quarter, while I made a scoring run and still led by 7 when there was 2.08 on the game clock. However, it was VIV's time to shine after that, and they took an offensive rebound 8 seconds on the game clock, and made a winning basket 6 seconds remaining in a game clock, and T. Linkova's Buzzerbeater-three point attempt didn't fall in this time (and at the end he ended up shooting threes at only 2 out of 7). Important loss for me (many enough of these, and it can make or break your season), great win for VIV, congratulations!

ED-RAJ:
ED led by 1 before 4th quarter, but lost 4th by 13 and ended up losing the game against strong RAJ team by 12. Total of 49 points were scored from the charity stripe, with total of 43 fouls committed. Only 4 turnovers for ED, but on the other hand they were ice cold behind 3 point line, finishing with 1 out of 12 shooting.

MAD-VDT:
Talking about quality FT shooting here, teams shot total of 54/56 throughout the match. That's a whopping 96,4% success rate in total - I don't think I've ever seen that kind of total numbers in BB with that many shots fired from the charity stripe.

WMO-EOS:
An overtime match - what's there not to like it a match like that? (Well, perhaps the result for one of the managers, but for rest of us, it's interesting to see such a close fights). Even Endel Karu's Round 4 leading 46 points weren't enough to bring EOS a win, as WMO's V.Molina (29/16/3 blocks) and M.Bensala (24/8/4 assists) and L.Lecomte (29/2/5 assists) had great games. WMO's 10 out of 19 shooting definitely pawed the way to the victory, even though EOS's 31% shooting (9/29) wasn't bad either.

TRO-HGK:
In their 34th attempt, the result is first ever HGL win for Homegrown Kings (former Swan River Serpents), congratulations! Quite tight match, and HGK was able to guess TRO's offensive tactics and also choose quite optimal defensive strategy. HGK was dominating on the glass, posting a Round 4 tied high-score in team rebounds with 65 (while TRO was able to snatch 34 boards throughout the game) - such a massive difference in an important stats category in an even match is something that usually turns over the table, and it did it this time as well. This difference was most apparent on offensive glass; HGK won a fight on rebounds on their offensive glass 28 to 24 against TRO. While HGK was still quite sloppy with the ball with 20 turnovers (and TRO had very respectable 16 steals) and shot FG's slightly worse than TRO, this afore mentioned difference in rebounds and 10 more FG attempts were enough to bring first ever win to HGK. This, in my opinion, is true HGL spirit - you keep on trying, training, and believing, and you'll get there, and this marks the first important step in a developing teams' journey (and like MrJ mentioned, there are very likely more wins to come especially in forthcoming seasons as team will develop strongly).

LGM-HB:
LGM with a much lower top8-salaries (ranked 14th in HGL with 278K, against HB's 444K which is 5th highest salary value in whole HGL) were able to get a clear 12 point win in this one. Most notable statistical difference in this match to favor LGM was their FG%: 51,8% to HB's 38,8%.

@all: remember that we all are playing tomorrow (on Sunday) as well, so set up your lineups/tactics for matches!

+1

Nice summary of games, Wagner.

Thanks, MrJ (although for me the actual +1 doesn't show, if it has been given)!

League tables are once again updated after Round 4 of play.

In 52 hours we have played two more matches, so after that already more than 35% of RS matches have been played - time flies so fast!

Lol. It will now...as I had forgot to give it. Sorry.

Yes it does, thanks (and no problem at all)!

My fellow HGL managers, I have good news for all of you, especially for those who are into stats and want to understand their teams' strengths and weaknesses from a statistical standpoint.

As we know, HGL Team Statistics were published (by me) on Season 1, and then only partially for Season 2 (on 6 first matches) and on Season 3 (2 first matches).

I plan to continue publishing those stats on this Season 4 as well. But that's not all, so please keep on reading.

****
As a disclaimer:
Because the statistics collection and statistics tables updating/organizing/stats post-editing process still remains very arduous process, I can't make absolute promises that I would be able to continue it throughout the Regular Season, that is still my clear goal (as I've already invested so much time in it, as you will see, so in poker terms I'm more or less 'pot committed' to this so that all the work doesn't go to waste).
*****

In the past, one of the challenges that restricted the amounts of statistical categories in HGL Team Stats-post were the lack of shooting statistics.

I have now figured out a way, how I can add shooting statistics to HGL Team Stats-posts, which will change these stats and give them totally new dimensions.

This is great news in many respects.
Especially because:

1. Well, basketball is a scoring and defending game. And while additional statistical categories can definitely affect the game big time and/or decide the outcome and winner of the match, in many instances shooting (or defending) quality is what ultimately decides the match winner

2. We can add many interesting and important, new-to-HGL statistical categories now that we have shooting statistics incorporated into a HGL Team Stats-posts. Wait for slightly longer, and you'll all see what I mean!

3. Now that I've seen the statistics myself (you'll see them soon too!), it does help me understand my teams' weaknesses and strengths in a more in depth way, that I never thought possible. (Having said that, of course one needs to remember that more younger the season when they look at stats, the more "unreliable" statistics still are because teams do not play against same strength opposition on each Round).

4. While this is not quite an NBA level statistics in terms of comprehensiveness, I wanted to show, what kind of statistics should be available in every basketball league out there - fantasy or real - including Buzzerbeater "regular leagues".

5. These should (probably) be the most comprehensive statistics available anywhere in the world in fantasy basketball manager-genre (in free to play-games) - I'd happily stand corrected though if one disagrees and proves me wrong.
45 categories in total - yes, you read correctly.

6. Having in depth information from special/advanced stats on our hands, I think has potential to increase HGL teams' motivation to train better, and possibly make more informed/wise decisions on what to train and at what point in time.

So, first update on Season 4 HGL Team Stats should be 'out of the oven' very soon - stay tuned!

I had to give up of gathering 100 own draftees.
I fired 21 players, none of them in my top8-salary envelope.
Let's see if it's worth crowding the transfers post by all those, but if someone especially demands/strongly recommends, I'll add them there of course (and might do that anyway at some point).

As I wrote earlier, I was planning to release HGL Team Stats for Season 4, with plenty of new-to-HGL (and new-to-BB!) statistical categories.

It has been my biggest undertaking in HGL to get all these ready for launch, but I'm glad to announce wait is now over!

45 statistical categories are now available in HGL Team Stats-posts 1-3 (links at the end of post)!

Most of them are completely new-to-HGL, and many of them are advanced level/special stats, so I think it's very much possible to make quite deep analysis of your team and your opponents' strengths and weaknesses when taking a look at these stats!

As you may not be familiar with some of the special/advanced statistics categories, and especially their abbreviations, I've made a separate glossary/legend/explanation post, here: (329502.15).

That should guide you through all these stats-posts. Please don't hesitate to ask, if you don't understand what some statistical category means. There are many of us here in HGL that like stats, and I'm sure also others than myself are happy to explain some stats categories in more thorough manner (than what has been explained in glossary, link above).

But now, please enjoy. Maybe same thing happens to you that happened to me - a light bulb moment - when you realize what parts of your team need developing, that you hadn't even realized. May this stats analysis even guide your training to some extent, if you so choose to... :)

As I said, I've put so many hours into this that I try to do it for the whole Season, so that the work doesn't go to waste, and we get the whole, balanced statistical picture when Regular Season has been played (as everyone has met everyone). But as this requires a lot of manual work, I can't guarantee publishing of posts (Seasons 2 and 3 teached me to be humble with my promises about stats). What I can guarantee though, is that they absolutely will not be published after each RS Round (maybe in every 3-6 rounds would be more realistic goal), as it takes lots of time also to sort tables and move them into posts.

But now, enough of talk; see for yourself how your team fares in different stats categories, here:

Season 4 Team Stats Post 1/3: (329502.16)
Season 4 Team Stats Post 2/3: (329502.17)
Season 4 Team Stats Post 3/3: (329502.18)

Sorry to see your dream go away, and yet happy to see you competing in HGL!

Thank you kecal. Yes, it was truly disappointing as it takes a long time to get to this point. But what can you do - I'm not going to sell my best players to achieve that goal, especially as I consider in many cases selling prices being way too low (given the time and paid salary to develop such player from the beginning), as it would also mean relegation and I might have to give up my other goal that's connected to my roster if I'd be relegated.

Happy to see you competing in HGL as well, and I hope HGL has grown into you so much that you decide to continue on next season as well!

Speaking of that, as usual, I ask everyone to let me know by the end of this Regular Season, that do they wish to continue in HGL on Season 5.

Some managers have given their continuous announcement of participation, so for them it's not absolutely necessary to inform me of that.

But on the other hand, sometimes it could be the case that one has forgot they have given that kind of commitment, so in that sense it'd make sense that everybody would let me know.
