Good day and welcome to our U21 program! Let us start by sharing the common questions asked by managers regarding U21 training.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

Q: Why should I train?
A: Besides National pride, you also get extra merchandise money when they play National Team games, and it increases further if you drafted the trainee (Homegrown Bonus). As for your team, though it takes some time, it's a slightly cheaper way to strengthen your team. Rather than buying 5 decent starters on the market, you can just buy 4 and then the 5th one will be your trainee.

Q: What makes my player a U21 prospect?
A: We usually take into consideration the combination of the following player attributes: height, potential, and skill distribution. To make it easier for everyone, we will be making another forum post after the FAQs section. You can refer to it to check if your player can be considered a U21 prospect.

Q: What do I need to train U21 prospect/s?
A: Trainee (of course), Trainers, your Patience, your Commitment to making your trainee strong, and a Training Plan.

Q: What's the minimum level of trainers required for U21 training?
A: We recommend at least level 4 trainer, and at least level 4 youth trainer.

The Youth Trainer only works when your trainee is 18 or 19 years old. When they turn 20 years old, you can fire the youth trainer. As of this writing, there is still no numerical data or research regarding youth trainers, but many managers can attest that it adds a few extra skill pops.

And also, we appreciate it very much if you can acquire high-level trainers, but please be mindful of your weekly income. Yes, we want more managers to train, but we don't want to ruin your BB experience by having negative weekly income while we're training, and possibly getting bankrupt.

Q: Are infrastructures needed for U21 training?
A: We appreciate if you have the two infras related to training: Training Court and Gym. But if your economy isn't stable yet, it's alright if you don't have them. In addition to buying these infrastructures, they have a weekly maintenance fee of 5k per level per week. Let's say you have a level 3 training court, you'll be paying 15k per week, on top of the 1 million you paid forits construction.

Training Court gives you some Free Throw pops. This is quite helpful, so this is something you can consider purchasing if you have extra cash and a stable economy.

As for the Gym, it adds more slots for Cross-training (check training guides for details). These random cross-training pops can be good if they go to your trainee's important skills. On the other hand, there's also chance that you get unnecessary skill pops, which could potentially ruin your training plan when you're training low-potential trainee/s due to potential cap issues. Not saying that you shouldn't buy the gym, but you can consider buying it if your trainee's potential isn't the minimum required for the build you will be doing.

Q: So, what's the training plan? And how do you make it?
A: This is the most common question we receive from managers. Here are some of the things to consider when making a training plan:
* Trainee's Height
* Trainee's Potential
* Trainee's Skillset/ Skills Distribution
* Trainer Levels
We also have to consider another important thing, the so-called Elastic Effect. This is the reason we usually start training with One on One for most U21 SF/SG/PG prospects, and Inside Defense for most U21 C/PF prospects, though there are some exceptions when it comes to defensive builds. We can discuss Elastic Effect, Cross-Training and Plans here, but it is quite long, so we recommend to check training guides.

Q: Speaking of training guides, where are they?
A: There are actually a lot of training guides out here in the forums. We also made a guide, by the way. Here's the link to the forum post:

https://www.buzzerbeater.com/community/forum/read.aspx?thr...

Note: We plan to update the training guide later, specifically the sample build training plans. But for now, this current version should suffice.

Q: Let's get on to it. How to train?
A: First, you need to choose the training. On the BB website, it's on "Training" on the Main Menu on the left side. On the BB app, it's on the Menu Button (three lines), then "Training".

Once you're in the "Training" Menu, you will choose the training type, and the position/s where your trainee will play. Don't forget to "Update Training" afterwards!

For full training, the required weekly minutes on your chosen position/s are listed below (copied from Game Manual):
18-19 years old: 45 weekly minutes
20-26 years old: 48 weekly minutes
27+ years old: 40 weekly minutes
Note: One minute buffer is placed for all age groups, which means 44 minutes is also sufficient for 18-19 age group.

These are the games where the minutes are counted towards training:
Saturday League/Scrimmage game
Tuesday League/Cup game
Thursday Cup/Scrimmage game

Minutes in Wednesday BBM games, Pickup games and Private League games don't count.

The skills and game shapes are updated every Friday.

Q: Is there a way to simulate training and check future skill pops?
A: Yes, by using training simulators. These are the training simulators available in the forums, if you're interested.

By Ubiond: https://www.buzzerbeater.com/community/forum/read.aspx?thr...
By NBA_4_Fun: https://www.buzzerbeater.com/community/forum/read.aspx?thr...
Coach Parrot, by Joey Ka: https://www.buzzerbeater.com/community/forum/read.aspx?thr...
By Rhyminsimon: https://www.buzzerbeater.com/community/forum/read.aspx?thr...

The first two were just released before the start of Season 72. We haven't tried them yet, but we're planning to. The last two simulators are quite old, but still decent tools for training simulation.

We made one as well, which is based mostly from the formulas on Coach Parrot and Rhyminsimon, with some changes in coefficients. Here's the link to the forum post:

https://www.buzzerbeater.com/community/forum/read.aspx?thr...

Q: Do you have any criteria/s in selecting U21 players?
A: Skills are very important. We know Stamina is important too, but there's only about 3-4 seasons to spare for U21 training, so we might not have enough time to train Stamina, or even Free Throws, if you don't have Training Court. If you have the time for Stamina, that's great! If not, it's alright!

Besides Skills, another important thing is the ability to maintain decent Game Shape. "8-9 GS in most weeks, 60-80 minutes per week"... We know some managers are already fed up seeing that when we remind them about Game Shape, but that's to stress how important it is in NT games. The higher the Game Shape is, the better the player performs.

If you're having difficulties maintaining Game Shape even if the weekly minutes are in the optimal range, we recommend buying at least a level 4 Sports Psychologist. It helps maintain Game Shape even if your minutes are sub-optimal. And please don't get it wrong, having a Sports Psychologist doesn't mean the player can play outside the optimal range every week.

Hope that covers a lot of stuff regarding U21 training. In the next post, we'll be posting the target skills for U21 prospects, as a rookie and as a soon-to-be 21-year-old.

As mentioned above, the following posts are intended for everyone who wants to check if their rookie/s can be a future U21 star player. We included the recommended skills for U21 rookie prospects when they were drafted, and the target skill levels when they're about to turn 21 years old.

Try reaching or going further beyond these target skill levels when they turn 21 years old; your player will have at least a shot at a U21 roster spot.

These skill targets are subject to changes, especially with the news regarding SB salary rework. But for now, these should work. We want managers to have at least some references of what a U21 prospect, or what a U21 player looks like.

=========

Let's start with the U21 bigmen (C/PF) builds:
Recommended Height: 6'8" & above (the taller the better)

* Classic Big (C/PF): The old-school, back-to-the-basket big.
