Haliborton tore his achilles which caused them to loose the finals, crimea river.

Best of 7 is not the same case as best of 1.
Also, again, back to back fouls and then game ending injuries with no more than simple FTs. If we're doing single game elimination, why are we comparing this to the NBA of all things?

There is a possibility to extend the options you get, in times that the referees go and check for possible goal-tendings and foul upgrades and what not.
You could add the possibility to have text after a foul with injury: "After review, the referees have decided to upgrade the foul to a flagrant." or "After review, the flagrant was overturned to a regular foul."
'After review, the player blocked the ball. No Foul."
Something along those lines.
Also, could do the same with goal-tendings and so forth. More options is never a bad thing. Obviously it all depends on the infrastructure and possibilities to add things.

That's bad luck, I lost my starting PG after 4 minutes. It sucks, but is part of the randomness of the game.
Flagrants happen, and players do get ejected on their second flagrant.
Injuries happen and can swing the result in individual games.
There is always next season.

This was part of my issue. People keep saying oh it happens and of course it can but thats not the real issue. For it to happen so closely back to back to non injury prone players and neither even chalk up to being a flagrant foul? Ejections in events of this type of frequency arent unheard of but for it to be nothing more than simple fouls on back to back game ending injury producing fouls felt off.
This is exacerbated by the fact that the playoffs as is is a 1 and done system for the first 2 rounds which most people commenting said nothing on.
Haliburton getting injured in the NBA was mentioned but the NBA will always be a bad comparison due to the setup. Theres been plenty of cases where someone gets hurt in game 1 of a series, comes back in game 2 and their team fights for the overall series anyway despite them being hurt early on. But thats the possibility when you have a best of 3, 5, or 7 series.
If we continue with a 1 and done set up, consequences for fouls leading to game ending injuries especially when there is more than one so close together should result in something more than simple fouls. Otherwise, thats giving the game to the other team at that point.
Upgrading and downgrading calls would be a great implementation. More options are definitely better. That plus turning the entire playoff series into a best of 3 instead of 1, 1, 3.
To avoid the feeling of a dragged out playoffs, you could make the first 2 rounds rapid fire where games 1, 2, and if needed game 3 of each round would be back to back nights. The finals would be its normal setup for that series of 3. This would at most shift the full playoff calender to only being about a couple days longer. This increases competition, increases revenue for both teams and even be factored into the league TV contract, and reduces the impact of single game injuries where theyre still huge but not end all.
