Yesterday we achieved a convincing win over Argentina (82207). Although we were suffering from very bad game shapes in our team (more about this later), everything else went strongly in our favour, so the victory was never in question.

After initial few minutes, when both teams were still probing each other, we finally stepped up and got ourselves a convincing lead of several points, which led to 22-14 after Q1. In the second quarter we continued with the dominance, first beaking the 10 point barrier with 29-18, and afterwards also touching the 20 points difference (51-31). With a solid lead of 53-35 we could be very optimistic during the half-time break.

Our optimism was proven to have a solid ground when we continued with the dominance, increasing our advantage to 20+ points, and the game was more or less decided by the beginning of the second half. Last quarter saw us increasing the lead even to 30+ points difference, but with some stepping of the gas in the final two minutes, the difference settled in +27 for Sweden.

The match turned out to be almost boring, and retrospectively I regret not playing with "Take it Easy" attitude. However, even normal doesn't hurt us much and knowing that Argentina had 2 losses already prior our match, and also has to play against Greece away in the last regular game, this was their game-to-win, if they wanted to secure a playoff spot. So playing at least normally, or even CT was reasonable to assume. Also, their GS was much stronger than ours, so a closed game was expected. But their TIE, our HCA, and our luck with the tactical outcome made the game very straightforward, even if our GS was really bad.

Here I must emphasize, that having NT players in GS 7 in the middle of the season is not acceptable. GS 8 happens a lot, it is a matter of luck to get a player to 9. But 7 is always a result of (really) bad minutes or injury. And I don't want to point fingers, since I know every owner of NT players has done a lot for the development of the NT team. Injuries happen, bad minutes happen, no individual is to blame here. But yesterday we had more than half (9 out of 17) players at 7 or below. 3 were at 8, 5 at 9. With so many players it comes down to statistics, and overall stats were really bad, since we could barely put together a 10 man squad for the game. This is a reminder for all of us that we need to contribute to community also on a weekly, GS related basis, otherwise, the NT project cannot be successfull. For example, the roster of Slovenian NT has 16 players, 10 were on 9, 3 on 8, and 3 on 7 - and this is considered a somewhat OK GS week. I don't want to be too harsh, but when it comes to the NT where differences are small, GS is king. And having good GS benefits all of us, not just the NT.

So next week we play against Iran, which is a bit weird opponent, they seem to be on autopilot, but have decent roster, and playing away is hard. Afterwards Ireland, when getting a win at a home game should be a must-do. We are currently 16th, getting two wins would guarantee a top16 spot, but top 8 is probably out of the picture.

Best regards

The last two games saw two different outcomes for us.

The game against Iran (82266) was unfortunate. Since they repeatablly played only two tactics (motion and PtB) with no specific pattern, I gambled, but chose the wrong option. It was an away game, and our GS was much worse, so we would have needed a successfull GDP to win the game. Even with our wrong GDP , we were close for three quarters, but the inevitable collapse came in the fourth quarter, and the loss was quite significant at the end. Too bad, since a win would have gotten us to the upper half of the playoff table, probably 11th or 12th position.

Afterwards, our GS started improving and I hope this trend will continue through the next week or two. So the game against Ireland (82296) was quite easy and we won with by far the largest margin among this season's games (+52 points). The first half was excellent (+42), while the second half was a bit more relaxed. Doesn't matter, since we are quite fixed now at the 18th position, 30+ points behind Australia, and such extra points difference would have been impossible to achieve.

Unfortunately 18th position means we will be playing an away game already in the first round of the playoffs. The opponent is Turkey, or, since 2022, Republic of Turkiye (also in English), a well renowned BB country with 367 users. Even with their large number of users, they saw very limited success in the last seasons, so we shouldn't be too afraid of them. But the combination of HCA and their overall quality will make this game very difficult. It also makes it an excellent opportunity to test our quality, so I ask all involved managers to take a special care of their players' minutes in this week. Things have already moved to a much better situation since two weeks ago

Our journey at the consolation tournament was finished after the game against Turkye (82574)

Even with much higher attitude and good enthusiasm, we were nowhere close of getting that win, which again confirmed the large impact of home court advantage. Turkish team quickly gained a significant advantage and held it mainly by their superior defensive abilities, which were also greatly supported by the HCA. So it was one of those boring and frustrating games, where you are not completely destroyed, but cannot realistically hope of turning the game around.

Nevetheless, it was our best tournament in a long time. A score of 6-2 is nothing to be embarrased about, and while I would very much like to qualify among top 16 or even top 8 teams, such achievement was ultimately proved to be a bit further down our development path. We are nicely progressing quality-wise, and also rating-wise, since we played our first game of the tournament against Venezuela as 55th on the table, and now we are 44th. Currently we are number 25 in Europe, which is seed 5, just one spot below seed 4, but here it doesn matter, since #24 and #25 will be placed in the same group. We will see if any major changes will affect the rankings further, but in any case we are eager for next season's European championhips, where we will be stronger and more experienced than two seasons ago.

There are two more scrimmages in this season, but it is more or less clear, that Kristian Forsbratt will finnish the season as our best scorer for the 5th season in a row! While for the past seasons, a new name emerged almost continuously, this season saw no significant addition to the NT roster, mainly due to the fact, that all our best players are deeply in their prime years, so it is getting more and more difficult to get in. For the next season, I definitely see 27 year old Bengt-Åke Olsson as becoming a team regular, while no retirements are expected.

I thank all owners for their help and contribution, and I hope for an even more successfull season 71!
