If the argument would be that best 4 teams wouldn't be able to participate to that round, then it could be also said, that losers of each round wouldn't be able to participate to next rounds (so they wouldn't get new chances to set new records) either. But enough of the speculation already on my part.

That's exactly why. The top four teams don't play. They can't. It's different from the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals. Anyone can get there.

I consider a round that the top 4 teams don't participate in as a qualification for the playoffs. It's my subjective view. Everyone can look at it differently. That's OK.

Yes, everyone can have their views. And as a consequence, I view these stats differently as far as Playoffs-stats are concerned, due to not whole Playoffs being calculated in. But again, that's just my view, and people have different opinions.

Well, theoretically anyone can get there (Quarters, Semis' and so on), but unless you do well in Regular Season, you know very well it's been impossible for anyone to win against your team or VPO, so so far this possibility of proceeding further in a Playoffs from a bad Playoff position has remained purely theoretical in practice by a somewhat large (and sometimes crushingly large) margin.

Also, taking a different approach/view (or in a way to continue on that line/spirit, that some teams can't play on First Round), one could also say that top4 teams could be playing on First Round, but they played too well to be able to do that, so yes, they also can get to play on First Round, it´s their "fault" that they don't play in there. (Having said that, of course I don't encourage anyone to lose on purpose, and to be fair I can identify contradictions in my previous sentence to some extent).

Again, I understand why in NCAA they call it play-in/First Four, because it's more like a warm-up to Playoffs (as 8 of 68 teams participate in it). Also in NBA play-in round doesn't include as many matches, as Playoff rounds do. But if in HGL, just as many play in First Round as in Second Round, aka. quarter-final round. (This doesn't make your opinion wrong though, but I wanted to underline my point).

I also knew from the beginning when introducing this Playoff system, that this Playoff format would create different amount of games to different teams, and whenever not all teams "of same level" aren't included in each and every round, it causes some problems in statistics, at least if you want to compare all teams equally.
(This same problem would be in a league, in which not everybody faces everybody else during season, which is one of the reasons it's great we don't have that problem in HGL).

Anyway, just like you said, differing opinions are more norm than an exception, and everyone can have their take on things, which is fine. Additionally, as mentioned before, you have done tremendously good work with releasing stats in the past (which I hope will be continued into the future), and as a creator of stats, you have freedom to make them like you wish.

So this post must not be understood as an any kind of attack towards your fine work, but just as an opinion of one person - person, who is trying to understand how others see things, why they do what they do, and sometimes give lengthy replies, as has been the case here.

Also, if again middle ground would be worth to be searched, then maybe separate stats and all-time records from First Round could be gathered/saved, in addition to those stats concerning only qtr, semis, and medal games.

I actually copied Hadar's statistics summary into an Excel file and once again thanks a lot for keeping these stats from season to season!. I then checked out the first round matches to get an idea, what the "difference" would be in the end. I added the first round records with a "1. Round" label into my own document and until now, there would be 2 entries from first round matches. Under the best personal performances F. Harmand (Elan Demars) would be tied with 4 steals (135007722) and N. Grévin (Les Gueux du Marais) would be the record holder in 3 points scored with 9 (135007098). I would keep track of the first round in my personal document too, just if something really interesting occurs.

Thank you LennuK., and that, if something, I call a quick reaction!

It's great that you wanted to take a look at that comparison and perhaps then keep on collecting data on it - as a someone who is really into stats and basketball, basketball stats and records are - go figure - one of my favorite things in whole spectator sporting field/area so to speak, so I'm always happy when someone brings me fresh stats/records, and shares the same excitement towards them (which you obviously do, as you likely wouldn't be gifting this much of your time to stats otherwise)! :)

Round 2 on Season 4 just behind the corner, and some especially interesting matchups on offer:

- FRE vs. ALA:
A new-to-HGL team ALA, will be searching for his first ever HGL win in this second match of his career, against historically struggling FRE team (record during 2 previous Regular Seasons total of 2 wins 28 losses) who decided to sell many of his top players during S3, and are now last in HGL salary rankings at 132K (#18). However, ALA is second to last (#17) with 164K salaries, so this suggests it could be an exciting and even match.

- BCR vs. EOS:
First ever meeting in HGL between Estonian teams - teams whose top8-salaries are very close to each other, being 398K and 432K, respectively. Both opened HGL season with a victory, but which one of these teams will continue on a victorious track and get the 'bragging rights' for Season 4? :) (Having said that, who knows if they´d even meet n Playoffs)!

- MAD vs. LGM
Salaries only suggest very even matchup (279 vs 278K, ranked #13 and #14), but how does all this transfer to a score board? Last season LGM had 7-8 record, where as MAD ('D' back then) was able to find 2 wins during 15 games played on Season 3 RS (Regular Season). So on last season LGM were surfing to a relatively easy 18 point win against MAD, partly due to having control over rebounds (50-33) and having somewhat higher FG% (41 to 33%), but will this change on Season 4?

- VIV vs. HB
Again, two teams very close to each other in salaries, at 430K and 444K, respectively, so a high level of play is to be expected on this one. HB snatched 6th position in ORSR (Official Regular Season Rankings) on Season 3, while the same numbers for VIV were 9th, and 7 wins. On Season 3 HB was able to win by 7, in which win their clinical free throw shooting (31 of 32, at 96,9%!) played a big part.

If your game wasn't (and on future Rounds wouldn't be) listed, it doesn't mean it doesn't hold any intrest. Point is, that as long as I'm not working for HGL/BB, I don't have as much time for HGL as I'd like to have in an ideal world (and trust me, I'm already using "some" time for it ;). Of course I can't even guarantee such previews, or match reviews (on some games) during RS, but on some Rounds I try to find time to write them.

And this has also been written for the purpose of possibly getting someone else also to write some brief 'analysis/speculation' on some future games. Like you can see from my writings, style is of course totally free and you don't have to have lots of knowledge of HGL teams to write something - just get out there and write, that would be my recommendation/encouragement.. :)

@all:
Remember to inform me about your

- trades if those do happen (whether or not player is one of your top8-salary players), and/or
- if you fire (throw out) a player from your team.

This ensures I can keep on updating the transfers-post and can keep on correcting Season 4 salary-values throughout the season if/when they change.

Question for all about another subject:
What do you guys think of having an injuries-post in HGL?
Of course problem is I don't have time to go through every teams' player list before each HGL Round, and injuries wouldn't be automatically updated like in regular BB league. (And as we know, injury length is not set in stone, so no definitive 'end date' could be given in case player would be put into a HGL injury-list).

You did see my recent post about the X-Man's return, Wagner? I also provided a link to him to make it easier for you.

Yes I did, thank you for information.
I replied to you already on this thread, into which you didn't respond.
I already updated transfer post on that part, but I haven't handled/transferred few other managers' transfer information to S3/S4 transfer post(s).

I would by far prefer notifications on Official HGL Threads as opposed to BBMail, as it leaves "easily" found information behind (rather than BBMails, which would work to some extent, but due to horrendous BBMail interface are total pain to access later on), so it requires (once again) more work for me, and having to handle more sub-processes and remember all of them.

So I wonder if the deletion of LennuK.'s message was due to player being actively on sale, and would they get deleted if we announce them here after the transfer?

- some teams (especially FRE) have sold players, that they could have theoretically keep, so these kind of effectively reduce "HGL average top8-salary", and are not a sign of bad training but instead a result of managers' own choice (to get rid of salary baggage by either tactical or forced selling/firing)

My problem is that I've never played with the idea to lose a match intentionally and this is not the best strategy to have a good draft; my team is very weak but in the last 6 seasons I've played playoffs; when you've an unbalanced team and no strong young players it could be an idea to sell players over 28yo in order to try to be less competitive = having better draft. It works cause at the moment I'm in first position in my league... :p
