Game 1 Game Ratings:

1st column=game rating (calculated by how many sublevels above atrocious-low a team is in Outside Scoring, Inside Scoring, Perimeter Defense, Inside Defense, Rebounding, & Offensive Flow combined). 2nd column=average player rating, 3rd column=total team efficiency (efficiency is (PTS+REB+AST+STL+BLK−Missed FGs−Missed FTs-Turnovers).

149 - 14.3 - 111 - Celestia BC
149 - 13.9 - 076 - BC Dondel
140 - 14.8 - 152 - KamiQazers Team
138 - 13.1 - 107 - Glasgow Blue Jays
136 - 13.6 - 137 - Vagarshapat
136 - 13.1 - 120 - SMOKI WAWELSKIE
134 - 12.7 - 142 - Locomotive Edinburgh
129 - 12.9 - 101 - Gibiskus
129 - 12.0 - 095 - Ucigasii
128 - 12.6 - 121 - The Brick Squad
128 - 11.6 - 117 - Stómas
127 - 12.1 - 097 - CB Nans

116 - 10.1 - 100 - Barcelona Chisinau
116 - 09.6 - 090 - Dacia Chisinau
114 - 11.2 - 056 - The Red Hammers

The Brick Squad win on their 1st ESL game since season 65 against C.B Nans by 101-89, with the Nans motion tactics playing into their 3-2 defence, through using extra effort, & by winning most of the rebounding battles when shots didn't drop.

The Red Hammers (last ESL season 67) had a tough night against KamiQazers Team. Things got off to a rocky start after a 9 point quarter, & although scoring improved after that, the KamiQazers stifling defence still allowed only 74 points while scoring 110.

Speaking of stifling defence, Glasgow Blue Jays and Comino Chameleons went into halftime 33-28. Comino SG Abramo Galli's 38 couldnt stop the Blue Jays winning 86-78.

Locomotive Edinburgh took a double GDP swing and hit both, & everytime the Dacia starters rested Dacia slipped further and further back. When Dacia did force a miss they were beat 58-31 in rebounds and thus went down their biggest defeat since season 70 by 115-87.

In what would otherwise be 2 teams staring at a mirror version of themselves, Vagarshapat gave extra effort, had better shooting & rebounding despite similar skills levels in both and won 113-99 for the night's only away win vs. Ucigasii.

Celestia BC beat BC Dondel with a little more depth and 100% at the FT line for a statement 89-75 victory in by game rating the game of the night.

Stómas had a heartbreaker with Þorbergur Þorgrímsson missing the 2nd of 2 FTs with 0:00 on the clock to not take Smoki Wawelskie into OT.

In a similar finish, Garegin Levonyan for Gibiskus pushed off for an offensive foul with 11 seconds left and while Tam Yin Chi stole back the ball, he did it with 0:00 on the clock and no time to attempt a buzzerbeater for an 85-86 defeat to Barcelona Chisinau.

Smoki Wawelskie 108 - 117 - Vagarshapat : Vagarshapat likely won this by a combination of home court advantage and Smoki's motion tactics playing into their 3-2 defence. Despite that it was still very competitive with Vagarshapat's lead being as small as 2 with 2.05 to go. Bulgarian veteran Nedim Göksu handed his team the win with an outstanding 47 point, 15 rebound, 10 assist night (all game-leading).

KamiQazers Team 102 - 87 Stómas : KamiQazers team put extra effort in compared to Stómas and were rewarded with a game that was 84-56 after 3 quarters. Stómas recovered somewhat in the final quarter but KamiQazers were still well ahead at the end of the game which will happen when your SFs score 47 combined and the opponent's SFs combined for 3!

Glasgow Blue Jays 93 - 85 Dacia Chisinau BC : Dacia, likely still smarting from their heavy defeat of the previous Saturday, were in no mood to take it easy on Glasgow Blue Jays and tried accordingly. They must have wondered why they bothered at the half being down 58-40, but then Glasgow put up a 7 point 3rd quarter. Normal service resumed in the final quarter with recent Blue Jays signing Joshua MacCrie ending up with 45 points, and Dacia's Moldovan national team SG/SF Vitalie Crudu replying with his own 34 point night. As in the previous game the Dacia bench seemed to be needing help combining to -1 efficiency.

The Brick Squad 98 - 83 Comino Chameleons : What seemed to give this win to The Brick Squad was partially Comino playing Look Inside into one of the stronger inside defending squads of the ESL but also The Brick Squad platooning Hugo Matt and Karel Haenebalcke (both Luembourg NT players) at SF against Comino's weakest starter Cedric Mizzi. This clearly worked as Comino were 25 down after 3 quarters and while Mizzi scored 20 himself, Matt & Haenebalcke combined for 51 in a valuable away win.

Celestia BC 131 - 93 The Red Hammers : After The Red Hammers had $840k KamiQazers on opening night, their fixture list then gave them $1.029 million per week squad Celestia. When your wage bill is under $550k then results vary but tend towards the unpleasant. Celestia shot 61% and despite Red Hammers centre Raúl Bohada putting up resistence with a 13/17/8 night on 31 efficiency, this went per the wage bill.

Ucigasii 74 - BC Dondel 99 : BC Dondel's thing is veteran savvy and tenacious defence, both being on display as Ucigasii struggled to 74 points on 0-15 from 3, and Ucigasii can console themselves that playing Look Inside might have saved them from a really slow night on the scoreboard with their own veteran Romanian PF Serban Boca impressing with 18 points, 21 rebounds and 7 assists. For Dondel, backup PG Yohann Bourcier had his best league night in seasons with 28 points in a mere 23 minutes.

Barcelona Chisinau 77 - 94 C.B Nans : Depth and shooting won this for C.B Nans with 7 double figure player ratings to Barcelona Chisinau's 4, and 9 extra FGs made on the same amount of shots. Losing the 2nd quarter by 16 was always going to be a hard thing to overcome and C.B Nans were good enough to not let Barcelona Chisanau get too close.

Locomotive Edinburgh 99 - 116 Gibiskus : After the opening day victory and being up 53-50 at the half in this game, Locomotive Edinburgh had a lot of reason to feel happy about things. With the 2nd half going 66-46 to Gibiskus, that did not last! This was probably fair as the 5 best player ratings all went to Gibiskus players, with Scotland NT player Alaister Chisholm's 14.5 only tieing for 6th as best Edinburgh player. Consolations were centre William Buchan and his 21&16, the 12-18 shooting from 3, and the 21-22 from the FT line.

Stómas 78 - 123 Celestia BC : An easy home night for Celestia with them winning every measurable metric and Polish swing SF Filon Szustakowski already putting up a 22.0 player rating. Both he and backup Arno Ichau scored at a better than a point a minute rate, and at 95-52 with a quarter to go this game was never in any doubt.

BC Dondel 118 - 100 Smoki Wawelskie : Smoki Wawelskie put up stiffer resistance in a game where the home court helped and were even 52-51 up at the half, and their power forward Veaceslav Calcea impressed with 29 points and 19 rebounds. They kept Dondel to 2-16 from 3 point range but in the end the Welsh team were just ground down with Dondel also committing 12 fewer turnovers in the game.

Gibiskus 89 - 102 Glasgow Blue Jays : This promised to be a good match-up but the Blue Jays seemed to win the tactical battle with the Gibiskus Outside Isolation tactics somewhat foiled by the traditional Glasgow perimeter defence shooting 21% from 3. Gibiskus should have had a more pronounced advantage in rebounding than 2 but Ragnar Jansson had a gameleading 14 RBs to snuff out what chance Gibiskus had.

Vagarshapat 77 - 75 KamiQazers Team : A shock win here for the cathedral city boys as they had a double-correct game day preperation guess AND put in extra effort which still only just put them in range of contention with them still 16 team rating down on KamiQazers' eyeopening 174. Forcing KamiQazers into fouls did clearly help with Vagarshapat having 11 more and scoring 9 more free throws.

Dacia Chisinau 82 - 112 The Brick Squad : Unlike the previous game, extra effort did not help here with The Brick Squad breaking out the relatively rare ultra perimeter defence tactic of the 1-3-1 for a cool 14-medium rated perimeter defence rating, while playing Outside Isolation. Luxembourg NT swing SG/SF took advantage of those tactics for 47 points in 31 minutes with Dacia's platoon of SGs failing to get many stops of any kind on him.

Comino Chameleons 99 - 94 Barcelona Chisinau : Comino had a double-missed game day preperation that had them in trouble with them still down by 15 with as little as 6.09 to go. Barcelona absolutely collapsed in those final few minutes by 26-6 and 40% free throw shooting on the night likely did not help!

The Red Hammers 93 - 76 Ucigasii : Ucigasii put out what seemed to be 3 NT squad players in Moldovans Olan and Turiac and New Zealander Hong, but otherwise a rotational squad for this game with the other 4 players combining to 14 points total which won't cut it in the ESL this season. The Red Hammers won the rebound battle by 16 and their low post tactics against a 3-2 defence meant they were funnelled against $5k salary PF Artur Pripa as much as they had to deal with Hong at C.

C.B Nans 97 - 94 Locomotive Edinburgh :
A barnstormer game in Scotland. Edinburgh had home court, 13 more team rating, 1.2 higher average playing rating, 9 more rebounds, 4 extra steals, and 1 extra block and assist each. They lost due to 29 fouls, with PF/C William Buchan fouling out early, and allowing 17 extra FTs of which Nans scored 13 more. Despite that, Nans still needed a blocked shot in the last 10 seconds, then a missed buzzerbeater corner 3 to avoid either OT or defeat and were likely more glad than normal with the W, while the Edinburgh coach searches the Buzzerbeater manual for a "meditation retreat" training option!

Celestia BC 121 - 95 Vagarshapat: A crash back down to earth for Vagarshapat after the heroics of the previous game with a double-miss game day prep guess, and the Look Inside tactics not even helping much against Celestia's least strong area of rebounding withh the gap in rebounds only being 4. It was 75-45 at the half, and although improving later were no match for the Luxembourgois contenders.

The Brick Squad 109 - 106 (OT) Gibiskus: Gibiskus put up a 161 team rating for this one only to get a 177 back from The Brick Squad! Brick Squad SG Karel Haenebalcke continued his red-hot start to the season with another 34 points, but Gibiskus might have won this but for not 1 but 2 missed 3s in the final few seconds. Their point guard Badrig Eliasyan then fouled out in the ensuing OT and that seemed to finally snuff out their hopes.

Ucigasii 103 - 109 Stómas : With the full squad back, Ucigasii took a swing at Stómas with inside preperation and 2-3 defence, but unfortunately for them Stómas instead played Princeton. Ucigasii had Stefan Olan at centre for this game and Guiseppe Zurlo at SG who both fouled out but these were both were in the last couple of minutes and Stómas' disciplined 8 fouls totals may be what really got them the win.

Glasgow Blue Jays 90 - 98 C.B. Nans : C.B. Nans continued their new hobby of frustrating the hopes of Scottish teams although at least this time they had home court and put in extra effort. They seem to have a knack of drawing fouls though, as the Blue Jays fouled them 24 times to add to the 29 from the previous game. Nans won the rebounding battle by 14 so any missed shots the Blue Jays could force usually went for a 2nd attempt.

Barcelona Chisinau 110 - 89 Dacia Chisinau : Barcelona beat their crosstown rivals despite Dacia using extra effort with an 89-57 scoreline entering garbage time showing the true gap in quality. 48/50/88 shooting splits meant that Barcelona were always going to win this in what is increasingly looking like a long, tough season for Dacia.

Locomotive Edinburgh 72 - 88 Comino Chameleons : A closer game than it looked on the scoreboard saw an Edinburgh 59-58 lead with a quarter to go fall away at pace. Comino allowing only 1-12 from 3 and winning the rebounding by 21 when both teams were matched in rebounding rating got them the win, and the missed pace guess by Edinburgh did not hurt their cause either.

KamiQazers Team 92 - 97 BC Dondel : Dondel won this derby by showing respect and playing the short bench home game or not, after KamiQazers gained an advantage back by playing Look Inside into Dondel's 3-2, while Dondel played motion into KamiQazers 3-2, and KamiQazers used extra effort. They were behind within the last two minutes so it was never easy for Dondel, but the win puts them back in the #2 conference spot.

Smoki Wawelskie 89 - 101 The Red Hammers : Some good old fashioned meat & potatoes basketball on display in a rare Base Offence / Man To Man versus Base Offence / Man To Man default tactics-off. The Red Hammers Australian shooting guard Wiley Boyd getting 6 3s in a 36 point performance did most of the damage doubling any other player with 7 less team turnovers steering them home.

Vagarshapat 87 - 96 The Red Hammers: Surprise win here for the Icelandic team despite home court and extra effort. Australian SF Wiley Boyd added another 6 3s in a 2nd 30 point night in a row, with 32 points of support from Emirati swing G/F Qasim Haj-Rashid. Vagarshapat had only Freddie Kelly at shooting guard score more than 12 points, and that wasn't enough tonight.

Glasgow Blue Jays 107 - 91 Barcelona Chisinau: Two similarly built teams chose to play into each other's main strength here of perimeter defence with Glasgow having more success with 11-27 from 3 compared to the 4-21 Barcelona put up. After a 32-15 lead in the 1st quarter, the game was much more competitive but the Moldovans never ever made it to a single figure deficit after that.

Comino Chameleons 50 - 68 Gibiskus: In a scoreline that looks like a misprint, Comino were held to 50pts despite a doubly correct gameday preperation guess. No Comino player shot better than 38% against the sensational level defence Gibiskus fielded both inside and on the perimeter, and Gibiskus' Armenian NT big Garegin Levonyan ground out a 21&18 night which on such a low scoring night was plenty.

Ucigasii 84 - 90 KamiQazers Team: Ucigasii tried harder and didn't do anything wrong in this game and indeed led until as late as 8 minutes to go largely due to a sub-par shooting night for KamiQazers, but in the end gave away 16 FTs in the last quarter to fumble a winnable position. Ucigasii's Moldova NT PG Timofei Turiac was played at SF in this game and ate well with 44pts on 18-30 shooting.

Dacia Chisinau 88 - 121 C.B. Nans: Dacia's tough season continues with the Nans starting guards combining to 66 combined points alone, while being held to a 34% shooting night. Dacia's centre Oleg Cazac coped best with 12 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks in a solid 23 efficiency performance.

Locomotive Edinburgh 89 - 124 The Brick Squad: Locomotive ran into a brick wall with The Brick Squad having 4 players get at least a 20.0 player rating and maybe should be consoled that they scored 89 points anyway with Scotland NT squad player Alaister Chisholm having a 27 point night including 6-7 from 3 and a gameleading 7 assists. But while defensively they had success against the other players, the Luxembourg NT trio of Matt, Puel, & Haenebalcke were not in a mood to be denied, and were not with 81 combined points.

Smoki Wawelskie 88 - 119 Celestia BC: Despite the scoreline, things looked even worse for the Welsh/Polish outfit at the half when it was 78-37! This was by no means a weakened Smoki team but despite a sensational rated inside scoring rating, only starting centre Fryderyk Krauza had an efficiency rating over 13, and even there seemed to be overwhelmed somewhat defensively with Celestia's starting C Wietse Cassart scoring 14 on an efficient 7 of 8 shooting.

Stómas 120 - 61 BC Dondel: Dondel played a surprising full rotational 5 man squad for this game which bodes ill for Vagarshapat on Tuesday, BC Böðvar in the cup on Thursday, or both! Dondel C Mathais Vatter in his last game for the club fouled out in the last quarter, PF Dominic Biesback was playing his 3rd ever game, and Nicolas Lebourg his 5th, with Dondel PG Johann Bourcier tasked with keeping things respectable which he did his level best to achieve with 35 points. Stómas as a team took advantage with a 55% team shooting night that keeps them in the main conference pack.
