Hey guys!
I want to be your U21 coach for the next 2 seasons.
A little bit of history:
the first steps
Let's return to the year 2007, where I started my basketsim career as an 18 year old. I started almost immediately as a scout of Belgium U18, where I learned a lot from keeping a database of youngsters' skills. I had to write to managers to get these skills and also kept in touch to let me sign up for the first time as a candidate for the U18. I was inexperienced and unfortunately I did not make it, as there were stronger candidates.
No problem, I didn't leave it at that. I was determined to coach an NT, whether or not U18. I decided to register as a candidate for the NT of Norway, with success! In 4 years I was able to set up a small community with a few managers who were driven to feed their NT with strong players. To do this, they had to invest in trainers, youth academy and especially in themselves. This was a success, because the team has never been able to win a qualifying match and in my last year it almost gave us the qualification. When we just missed it, I decided to end my term and focus on Belgium.
Belgian seniors
Due to the success in Norway, I was able to work as an NT coach of Belgium.
There it was time to harvest and we were able to qualify for the World Cup in the 1st year. On the World Cup we were able to hoist ourselves to the semi-final and yet we can speak of a success. Especially when you know that Belgium was 16th on the world ranking list.
Belgian talent
After the success of the seniors, I focused on the U18 of Belgium. Thanks to my experience as an NT coach with Norway and Belgium, I had already laid a good foundation for another successful project. The community in Belgium was larger than that of Norway and so the quality of the youngsters was already very high. After 2 years I got to know a lot of managers and I became known in the interior. Unfortunately the results couldn't be finished, as basketsim went wrong and didn't come online anymore.
New chapter: Buzzer beater
October 2016, I start with buzzerbeater. Soon I fell in love with the game. I decided to take a full look at training young players who came out of the draft. That is also where my focus lies.
Later, with the help of managers, I was able to quickly become a scout of the U21 NT team. But my ambition lies beyond just being a scout. I wanted to become a U21 manager again, and that is where the opportunity lies.
I am determined to give players and managers, who are developing well, the chance to fully support the U21 team.
What is my vision?
Offense wins games, defense wins championships.
- By choosing a relatively new coach in the game, you would invest in consistency.
- I'm a true Belgian, who's Belgian minded, I won't succeed without Belgian players.
- Of course, the team and devices I will be surrounded with, are great. But work still has to be done. So let's not waste time.
- I'm learning every day new things, IRL and in Buzzerbeater. I will make mistakes, but the intention is to learn from these mistakes.
- I think there are great managers in our tiny country, so there is a good base to achieve the results
