A little late as we are now 6 games in to the season, but here is a summary/overview of season 58.
As always 5 new teams entered the EBBL, MexicanTaxiDriver stamped their promotion first by going unbeaten in the league last season. They have continued their strong form in to this season with a 4-2 start including an impressive win over Optic Fibres. Another promoted team were Alll Stars, who have also started 4-2. The other 3 promoted teams, CAA Fury, BC Snaiperiai and Borac Basket, all sit at 1-5 as they fight for survival.
In the blue conference, Vecx has made a somewhat surprising start to the season going 5-0 with the lowest team salary (other than Whales) before a defeat against Optic Fibres ended that run. Current back to back title winners Arsenal 98 have also made a good start as they also sit 5-1. As previously mentioned, MexicanTaxiDriver sit 3rd at 4-2 before Optic Fibres and Bournemouth Drunkers are tied at 3-3. Gauson sit at 2-4, although look to be mid-rebuild. BC Snaiperiai and CWA Fury currently prop up the blue conference tied at 1-5. Optic Fibres recently added another star player to his team as they look to push on towards a EBBL title push, but currently stand a few win off the pace. Can Vecx’s old men continue to perform to keep him competitive, we’ll have to wait and see.
In the red side, last seasons finalists, London Whales have sold up and look like are looking at relegation this season, meaning the other teams are either fighting for the playoffs or relegation series. 3 times finalists Hope Springs are the only side left unbeaten this season at 6-0 despite a number of injuries already this season. Three teams then sit at 4-2 being Team Nook, Alll Stars and Leeds City Ballers followed closely by Bromley-By-Bow at 3-3. St Purple & Greens are currently in 6th with a 2-4 record ahead of Borac Basket at 1-5 and London Whales at 0-6.
Early signs look to Arsenal 98, Tide of Fire and Hope Springs once again battling it out for the title this season, but with Tide’s aging team will they be able to keep their legs for the rest of the season. Optic Fibres’ recent purchase suggests they also want to be included in the fight for the title.
