U21 Press Release:
Pilipinas thrashes Korea, 117-37

Team Pilipinas made quick work of a gutsy South Korean squad Monday night, thrashing with a 117-37 performance.

The Filipinos totally dominated the South Koreans, who were beaten so bad they were nearly booted back to Seoul. Discussions of the game are considered taboo in the country, with the Blue House issuing a decree that such topic being brought up will now qualify as a criminal offense. It was also rumored that Coach Jeorge thought of fielding his coaching staff to play in the last 3 minutes of the game. Coach Jeorge was unavailable for comment on this issue.

Reserve Ron Encomienda led Team Pilipinas with 20 points and 10 rebounds in 18 minutes of action. Bella Jacinto was seen in the stands, cheering for the 21-year old stalwart from the Cebu Orcas.

The winless South Korean squad was led by 20-year-old Bum-Keun Kim with 7 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 steals in 36 minutes of game time.

The Filipinos are expected to sweep this round as they face New Zealand (1-3), while Korea hopes to get their first win against Thailand (2-2)

U21 Press Release:
Pilipinas beats New Zealand, 84-48

In what is seen as the final tune up match before the semifinals, Team Pilipinas made quick work of New Zealand, 84-48 Monday night at the BC Arena in Hong Kong.

Forward Augustus Calo led the Filipinos with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block in 29 minutes of action. He barely saw action in the tournament. “I want to make this clear – we have the necessary tools to be champions this season, what happens next is now a matter of talent, and to some extent, luck,” Coach Jeorge said during the post-game conference.

Tonight’s victory sets the stage for the Filipinos to go against region powerhouse China, who inexplicably lost against Indonesia, 94-82. “We cannot afford to be complacent. What matters is China must lose next week for us to advance to the finals,” Coach Jeorge continued.

Curiously enough, Ron Encomienda finished the game with only 8 points and a horrific 15% clip from the field. It is rumored he had to settle a dispute between girlfriend Bella Jacinto and superfan the God of Kicks, who was also seen in the arena during the game.

Someone once told me I needed to face fear to get over it, and I thought well why not take a step further and cut my fear into little pieces then set my fear on fire then throw the hot ash of my fear into a lake and then poison the lake. Simple!

U21 Press Release
Pilipinas beats China, 94-81

Team Pilipinas is headed to the Asia U21 Championship Tournament, beating China, 94-81.

“It’s amazing what happens when you get a group of young men who believe, and these guys believed,” Coach Jeorge said during the post-game conference, commending his players. “I am happy with what we’ve accomplished. We have an amazing coaching staff, and our GMs in the different PIlipinas leagues contributed to the formation of our National teams.”

Ron Encomienda made up for his lackluster performance against New Zealand when it mattered most, leading the Filipinos with 28 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, and 3 blocks in 31 minutes of action. Ron did not comment when asked if his poor performance against New Zealand was due to a change oil.

It was a bad shooting game for China, who were to held to 37% field goal shooting and 23% from behind the arc. They were led by forward Bei Beikun, who finished the game with 23 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. “China will bounce back next season, so we have to be prepared. We will have three possible holdovers next season, so we have a good start to build on our next U21 team,” Coach Jeorge said before leaving for the team bus.

Team Pilipinas is expected to give it their all against host Hong Kong. Unofficial odds for this match are Pilipinas +1.5, and 153.5 O/U.

Pilipinas beats South Africa, 102-88

Team Pilipinas starts its World Championships campaign with a resounding victory, beating South Africa, 102-88.

The Proteas did everything they could to stop the Filipinos. “I knew they (Pilipinas) were going to use their inside game against us. We made the necessary preparations, it was just not enough,” Coach A Warrior said via text message when asked for a comment. “My boys gave everything they had for this game. I am still happy with the outcome, considering they were the heavy favorites.” The South African faithful tried to make things difficult for the Filipinos whenever they visit the free throw line, blowing their vuvuzelas. “Admittedly, I think those horns should be banned,” forward Joe Tuason said after the game. He finished the game with a 33% clip (2 of 6) from the stripe.

Big man Jamir Ilusorio led team Pilipinas with a double-double, racking 21 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block. “I know the competition in this pool is really fierce, so getting a win is an accomplishment in itself,” Coach Jeorge said during the post-game conference. “Our next target is get our second win against the US. It will not be easy, but with ‘puso’ on our side, anything can happen.”

The Filipinos are scheduled to face the 2nd seeded Americans next, while the South Africans face 12th seeded Romania.
