Seniors
The England senior team looked to bounce back after a disappointing defeat to Serbia as they faced 22nd ranked Portugal who also suffered defeat last week. It was a tightly fought contest throughout with neither team really taking control. Portugal looked to have taken momentum in the final period as a basket from C Diogo Barbosa with 10 seconds remaining put them ahead by 2 points. However, a mid range jump shot from SG Alexey Sanders tied the game and sent it to overtime. There overtime period was just as competitive as neither team had more than a.1 basket lead until 23 seconds to go after a free throw from Sanders put England up 4, but this game wasn’t over. Back to back 3s from Portugal and free throws from PG Kim Bujalska meant the game was tied with 7 seconds to go. Step up Ken Greene who hit a buzzer beater from the baseline to win the game! The final score, 119-117 to England who picked up a huge win to put them at 1-1 in the 2nd round. The schedule doesn’t get any easier though as they face 8th ranked Belgium next week who currently sit 0-2.

Juniors
The England juniors went unbeaten in the qualifying stage at 8-0, good enough for the 8th seed, which set up a first round tie against 59th ranked Sweden. England came out strong and never looked back as a 27-16 first quarter was followed up by a 33-10 second quarter as England dominated Sweden on the defensive end. The England defence held Sweden to only 19.5% shooting and only 49 points compared to England’s 46.6% shooting and 106 points. The next round sees a mouthwatering tie as now 24th ranked England face offf against 12th ranked Germany in a game which could go either way.

3 points- Sivasekaran Kanjilal- 27 points, 10 rebounds in 28 mins as he dominated the Sweden team on both ends of the court.
2 points- David Hughes- 15 points off the bench in 20 mins, on only 7-10 shooting. Hughes also had 4 assists
