U21 Press Release
Pilipinas beats China, 94-81
Team Pilipinas is headed to the Asia U21 Championship Tournament, beating China, 94-81.
“It’s amazing what happens when you get a group of young men who believe, and these guys believed,” Coach Jeorge said during the post-game conference, commending his players. “I am happy with what we’ve accomplished. We have an amazing coaching staff, and our GMs in the different PIlipinas leagues contributed to the formation of our National teams.”
Ron Encomienda made up for his lackluster performance against New Zealand when it mattered most, leading the Filipinos with 28 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, and 3 blocks in 31 minutes of action. Ron did not comment when asked if his poor performance against New Zealand was due to a change oil.
It was a bad shooting game for China, who were to held to 37% field goal shooting and 23% from behind the arc. They were led by forward Bei Beikun, who finished the game with 23 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. “China will bounce back next season, so we have to be prepared. We will have three possible holdovers next season, so we have a good start to build on our next U21 team,” Coach Jeorge said before leaving for the team bus.
Team Pilipinas is expected to give it their all against host Hong Kong. Unofficial odds for this match are Pilipinas +1.5, and 153.5 O/U.
