Between the injury bug, and in general not as talented as I'd like due to finances... What are some things I can do to help get this team more competitive. Currently 3-3, and lost 1 game because of a made full-court 3 at buzzer (81-78).

Paul Salas should be your main focus, I might even suggest selling him, he'd bring a lot of cash in. You'll want to cut your team down to about 12 players and then buy a few older players for cheap that can compete with the top teams in your division. If you manage gameshape (play all your players between 50-75 minutes a game) and use your enthusiasm right (check the game manual) then you'll be out of D.V in no time

Yeah, Salas have working towards U21 and NT teams, Quigley benefitting a little as a Back-up to him.
I have 11 players on my roster now, so cutting the roster to 12 should be no problem. A problem I do have is both my SFs are injured, and my team's economy is hovering -10k-+20k each week.

Largely in part to the Paul Salas effect on my team. My team has more wins this year than they did all last season already, only difference is Salas. Also, the attendance at team's games is over double, which I also have to assume is largely in part of Salas. Selling him I see as a short-term gain, long-term loss.

I agree with you. Don't sell him! Its better in the long run to keep him for multiple reasons:

1. It will boost the crap out of your merchandise Some people have said that if you keep the good trainee you draft and he happens to make the U21 national team (Which yours has a decent chance at making) their merchandise has raised over 100k per week. Even if he doesn't make it, the fans still like to see the once rookie become the team leader and that also boost merchandise (As well as if he helps you win more games)

2. Although it may appeal to some people to sell your prized trainee. That could be the only good one you get in 4 or 5 seasons (Knowing these drafts), plus you hardly ever see a 5 potential guy with that much skill, so it would be a big loss.

3. It is simply more fun to train your talented stud. It's fun to watch them grow. I haven't been playing Buzzerbeater for that long but my one trainee that I have had, ive seen him pop 8 times (He is 22 now) and i get filled with excitement every time i see that he has grown as a player. Your especially lucky because your player has so much potential.

youll have to sell him if he gets to U21/NT level. He will most definitely carry you out of D5 but next season or the season after that his salary will become too much for you to handle and also field a competitive team. It suck to let go of a franchise player like that, i know, but D4-5 teams just cant support NT talent. However I would definitely hold on as long as possible seeing as if youre getting help with training he will soon be unstoppable in d5

Well, as you noticed... most of my team are lower salary guys... so I don't think his salary will carry me too far out of way come his U21/NT level. Plus from what I hear his merchandising he'd bring in, would almost pay for himself if not more.
