Before we get too much further into inter-conference play, I figured I ought to put up the poll for this season.

Which conference will collect the most wins? Will it be the Great 8 led by WHV and the cadre of tough teams vying for playoff position? Or will the Big 8 teams rally to tip the scales in their favor? Will marotto futebol clube continue its spotless record in this go 'round in D4? Can the big 8 overcome two teams riding the league minimum salary?

Games to watch:
12/29: ABQ @ ILL & NEV @ YEA
These two match-ups will show whether Big 8 teams can defend home court against similarly ranked Great 8 teams. Will Fáñez and Legoretta be able to slow down Runko (the Croatian Sensation) enough for the Illiniwek wingmen to outpace the ABQ scoring machine? Will Langiu and Bojkovski rain down threes without mercy or will YEA's balanced offensive scheme find all the holes in the league's second-worst defense.

1/1: LAT @ WIP
On New Year's Day, the Trojans and WIP face off. Both of these teams are better than their current 2-6 records imply. Games like this will make the difference between facing relegation and earning a trip to the playoffs. The Trojans' young standouts will face a test in the multi-pronged inside attack of Work in Progress.

1/5: WHV @ ILL
Under the bright lights, WHV will face another tough away game at Illiniwek Arena. It will be a race to see if the three musketeers (Salguero, Facon, and Legoretta) can outscore Zanesi, who broke the league's single game scoring record earlier this season.

1/8: ULD @ DCA
The Clams will be looking to redeem themselves on network television after close losses to the Jazz in both their season 20 and 21 meetings. But defending home court will not be easy. Each team will try to take away their opponents' bread and butter while hoping to make the best of the scraps they have left.

1/12: UTK @ ULD
It will be the Jazz's turn to seek redemption after losing hard-fought games to uthinkuknow in both league and scrimmage formats last season. The Jazz combo will need to play in sweet harmony and nail every Zaht-Doo-Daht if they want to swing past the dynamic duo of Coy and Floyd.

1/19: MEG @ WHV
The battle of the conference leaders (assuming the standings remain somewhat the same) will take place after the All-Star Break. Look for a MEG team rebuilding after the sale of Ansolabehere, who began the season leading the league in scoring with an incredible 42.5 ppg. Look for the WHV wingmen to try to exploit his absence and use the home crowd to make a grab for HCA in the playoffs.

Poll:  Which conference will have the better record in interconference play?

Big 8 1

Great 8 2

Seeing as the current rankings show the Big 8 at 902 average CR and the Great 8 at 742 average CR... I think the scales tip in our favor. Besides, there are a slew of good teams with a good chance at promotion clogging up the funnel in the Great 8. And in the Great 8, our recent demotee (MEG) has demolished the competition.

Well, this thread seems pretty pointless now.

The Great 8 is 14-2 after two weeks on interconference play. Extra effort makes the difference in the NEV & LIT victories. And LAT uses extra effort to take down GUB. But the night's PD is 102 in favor of the Great 8, making their total PD +185.

LAT @ WIP -

WIP came out of a tough first quarter with a hard-fought 5-pt lead. And they never looked back. A three-minute, 8-0 run for the Trojans at the end was not enough. And as time forced the Trojans to foul, WIP went 7-17 from the foul line in the last minute to seal the deal.

and in other news:

ILL @ NEV -

There was a shootout at the Colorado Falls Forum tonight. And even though both gunfighters took lead, it was the chief who rode off into the sunset at the end of this old style western. Facon and Salguero combined for 96 pts, 17 rebs, 5 asts, and 2 stls. And the game turned on key foul-outs by Sczcodry in the 4th and Guaso in OT. The Rocks led for most of the second half. But a late surge from Illiniwek culminated in a 3-pointer from Facon to take a 2-pt lead with 19 seconds left. Podradsky tied it up 5 seconds later. A Guaso foul gave Salquero the opportunity to put the Rocks away, but two missed FT's sent it into OT. The Rocks held on for a while, but with both of their starting forwards and the SF back-up on the bench with 6 PF's, they couldn't put it together in the last seconds.

With 8 more games in the books tonight and only 16 to go, the Great 8 has increased its record to 40-8 in interconference play. And the collective PD swells to 916, which makes the average Great 8 PD/G 22.9.

Lucky us, indeed...

Wow, this is the first time in my history dating all the way back to season 7 that I did not have at least one representative at the all star game and the first time in Chuck Coy's career that he was not voted an all star. They better come out of the break with a vengeance!!

47-9, 1090 PD
19.5 PD/G

Coy and Floyd are all-stars in my book. Had it not been for the injuries, they would have been picked for sure.
