South Africa Ends the First Round on a High Note

Facing off with the host nation team, Tounes, we had a solid, but unremarkable performance. What's another word for that...? Respectable. In this contest, our team performance was balanced across the board, recording a 7 (respectable) team rating in 5/6 categories. Our balanced approach took the upper hand over the Tounes team who were very focused on their inside attack and defense.

M Giqwa led the way with 30 points on 11/16 shooting. N Tshwete also exploded for 19 points in 15 minutes off of the bench. Overall the South African bench annihilated Tounes' backup unit, resulting in a 104-84 Victory!

We enter the 2nd round as the #1 overall seed, thanks to the Points For tiebreaker. Up first, we will face off against our arch nemesis, Senegal. The last time we played, Senegal took us by surprise and handed us our only loss this season. This time around, we will be on our A+ game to even the score!

Senegal Proves to be South Africa's Kryptonite, Beating Us Again...

In an intense rivalry rematch against Senegal, South Africa looked poised to get their revenge early in the week after a great game shape update. Unfortunately with recent sales transfers of two of our five best players, C Molefi and N Ndaba were both in lower game shape than expected.

The offense clicked well for the most part, running Motion into Senegal's 3-2 zone, and M Giqwa, N Tshwete, and K Kolane all ended with 24 points apiece. Unfortunately we ran into foul trouble and our bigs struggled shooting the ball all night. Sadly our four bigs in the rotation shot a combined (and abysmal) 3/20 from the field We entered the 4th quarter down 12 points and fought back to make it a competitive finish, even making a contested three pointer which brought it within 2 points with 12 seconds left... unfortunately we came up just short, resulting in a 102-107 loss.

South Africa looks to get back on track next week against Tounes, who is coming off of a CT game and will be exhausted. In our matchup two weeks ago, we won 104-84.

South Africa Topples Tounes Twice

After beating Tounes just a few weeks ago. The rematch went exactly as expected. South Africa controlled the game from the very beginning and Tounes looked tired and outmatched. With Tounes coming off of a Crunch Time last game, our balanced attack dismantled them at every opportunity. While this game was by no means our best performance, a lot of players certainly got in on the fun.

South Africa had 8 players score 10+ points and no players scored more than 19 points (L. Ncube). We held Tounes to under 100 points for the second time and came away with the 114-90 victory!

Next up, South Africa (5-2) will face off with Al Jazair (4-3). By winning this game, we would lock ourselves into at worst the 2nd seed entering semi-finals. In our first matchup against Al Jazair, we won 125-98.

Thanks Sandy! Hopefully third time is the charm, they’ve been the biggest struggle for us.

South Africa loses to Senegal Again

Sadness. Season 58 ends with a third loss to Senegal after the quick turnaround, the lineup was a mess and our team paid for it dearly. Senegal moves onto the finals matchup with Al Maghrib. South Africa is done for the season.

I'm surprised by the strategies : OI + Inside Box and One. Really ?
I must admit I haven't used them enough with my team, but it didn't seem to work.
Can you explain the choice please ? Thank you. :)

Hello Sandy,

Unfortunately I am on vacation right now and forgot that semifinals run early Friday morning for me, not on Monday like the rest of the season. This is something I’m usually very aware of, but let it slip my mind as I’ve been doing stuff at a conference today.

The tactics were just still set from last week, which is why we also did not run the starting lineup that I wanted to. We started Ndaba who dropped to 6 GS which hurt us dearly. I was planning on going PtB M2M with a more ideal lineup, but I dropped the ball on it. Very disappointing for me and the team as a whole. I think with the desired lineup, we have a better shot and might have even won.
