We go again in season 71 in the consolation tournament

2nd February 2026 - Estonia (Home)
9th February 2026 - Cyprus (Away)
16th February 2026 - South Africa (Home)
23rd February 2026 - Canada (Away)
2nd March 2026 - Azerbaijan (Home)
9th March 2026 - Norway (Away)
16th March 2026 - Saudi Arabia (Home)
23rd March 2026 - Colombia (Away)

Thought on the fixture list at the time of preseason. A reasonable draw, could have been better but equally could have been far worse. 4-4 would be hopeful record to give ourself a chance of getting to the knockout rounds.

Trainers, I ask you to support the team by continuing to train your scottish players and keeping them in good game shape!

The season started with a walkover win in the first week scrimmage vs Costa Rica. A disappointing outcome in respect of some of the records our players are looking to break this year but we have no control over this!

Estonia U21 78 - 74 Scotland U21 (83304) LOSS

In our first competitive game we welcomed Estonia.

We kept the game close right up to the final moments against a strong team and ultimately Estonia were able to rely on better depth to steal the win as our bench performed poorly but it was an encouraging performance despite the narrow defeat.

Scotland U21 89 - 96 Cyrpus U21 (83343) LOSS

We then travelled to Cyprus hoping to win against a similar level opponent. It looked so promising for the majority of the game but we started to lose control in the 3rd quarter and eventually Cyprus managed to take the lead late in the 4th quarter and never looked back. A tough defeat to take given the match ratings where we outperformed the opponent.

South Africa U21 118 - 119 Scotland U21 (83421) WIN

This game had the makings of a classic since the first moments of the match and it certainly did not disappoint. The visitors decided to switch it up and went for an outside attack instead of their common Look Inside style.

SA were battering us early with a barrage of 3 point scores however their SF took a hard shot in the first quarter and the tide then seemed to turn as we battled back to tie the contest at the half. The second half was tightly contested but we always seemed to have an element of control in the match due to our offensive rebounding.

We had a poor night at the free throw line and it allowed SA to stay in touching distance of us. We managed to clutch it out and Jeffrey McCoist hit 2 clutch free throws to give us a 4 point lead with seconds remaining and it was so crucial as SA made a buzzer beater shot to narrow the deficit to a single point. It is great to win this match on equal effort against a stronger opponent.

After a poor performance off the bench last week that cost us vs Cyprus, Gorgeous George Aitken (54850680) had a night of redemption with 21 rebounds that were crucial to the victory. Extraordinary stuff!

Up next is Canada away. A difficult match against a team that has been performing well for a number of years.

What a devastating loss tonight.

I am considering stepping down at the end of the season if a suitable candidate steps up. I would still happily be involved in the coaching side of things but this doesn't seem to be working. Congrats to Azerbaijan on the win, clearly a well coached team that keeps defying the ratings against us.

Sorry been a bit late with the match write ups

Scotland U21 72 - 109 Canada U21 (83453) LOSS

A very difficult match against a form team who had the home advantage. This was one of if not the the toughest matches of the schedule and there was no great expectation of any result for us.

Azerbaijan U21 81 - 79 Scotland U21 (83476) LOSS (OVERTIME)

A loss that is difficult to describe, given that we put more effort into the game and also had home court advantage. Ultimately we gave up 69 rebounds to a 3-2 zone to our 49 and these extra possessions were decisive in this close match.

It is the second time we lose to Azerbaijan in successive seasons, both being in Overtime. We give Azerbaijan our best wishes and they are in a good position to make the playoff rounds.

Our chances are dangling by a thread, the next match was vs Norway away, win or go home as we are sitting at 1-4 record and sadly we do not get any bonus points for brave defeats.

Scotland U21 99 - 86 Norway U21 (83509) WIN

We went into this match with the message being clear, failure is not an option. We must right the wrongs of the campaign so far.

We decided to try a GDP guess with Normal Pace which was sadly incorrect as the Vikings decided to go with a fast paced Look Inside attack.

That was never going to bother us tonight... weeks of frustration and fury was taken out on the Norwegians. We raced into a 49-36 HT lead and extended the lead to 81-60 lead after 3 quarters. A glorious night of 3 point shooting paved the way for a comfortable victory despite the inevitable garbage time comeback by Norway. We went 16-30 from 3 point range. We won by a margin of 13 in the end.

Steven Ashman (54853203) my utopia trainee made his first start and had a solid performance at SG. He is only 20 so we look forward to his contributions going into next season as his training plan continues.

A shoutout to Monthecabbage who is doing a fine job training Allen MacGruer (55468200) who at 19 years old gave us some solid minutes off the bench at Center. Another one we look forward to a bright future with!

We have given ourselves a chance with this famous victory. We are confident to defeat Saudi Arabia next week but we can't take this match for granted given they beat Paraguay u21 which is a marquee victory for them! Then we would need to defeat Colombia away to finish with a 4-4 record which may be enough to get us into the playoffs!

Please keep your players in good game shape to give us a chance to pull this off!

Saudi Arabia U21 72 - 90 Scotland U21 (83564) WIN

A comprehensive victory as expected. The game was close for large portions but we always felt in control and were confident of the victory. We were up by 4 going into the 4th quarter but our quality shone through in the end to secure a much needed win.

Once again Steven Ashman (54853203) takes the plaudits with an inspired performance 12-19 and 6-9 from 3 point range with 3 rebounds assists and blocks with no turnovers.

This win put us at 3-4 going into the final fixture. Other results have left basically 0% chance of qualifying but we will try and close out competitive play with a statement win vs Colombia at their gym!

Scotland U21 89 - 77 Columbia U21 (83589) WIN

A dead rubber match with neither team having any chance of making the knockout rounds. We had the enthusiasm advantage given that Colombia had CT vs Netherlands.

We won this comfortably despite one of our best players David Borthwick being injured early in the second half.

It was a real team effort where no one player clearly stood out and everyone done their part on offence and defence.

This could be viewed as a bittersweet victory. It is always great to get a victory like this to close out a respectable campaign at 4-4, but it does leave the thought of what if? What if we had stolen a victory in the close matches that where played vs Estonia and Azerbaijan? Chances are we would have finished 33rd and just missed out. Doesn't it make you proud to be Scottish?....it's shi**.... great being Scottish!

We will look to keep a winning mentality moving into the scrimmages to close out the season. We hope to see our young prospects continue to gain skill points! Keep training your young players and keep them in good game shape please.
