We go again in season 71 in the consolation tournament

2nd February 2026 - Estonia (Home)
9th February 2026 - Cyprus (Away)
16th February 2026 - South Africa (Home)
23rd February 2026 - Canada (Away)
2nd March 2026 - Azerbaijan (Home)
9th March 2026 - Norway (Away)
16th March 2026 - Saudi Arabia (Home)
23rd March 2026 - Colombia (Away)

Thought on the fixture list at the time of preseason. A reasonable draw, could have been better but equally could have been far worse. 4-4 would be hopeful record to give ourself a chance of getting to the knockout rounds.

Trainers, I ask you to support the team by continuing to train your scottish players and keeping them in good game shape!

The season started with a walkover win in the first week scrimmage vs Costa Rica. A disappointing outcome in respect of some of the records our players are looking to break this year but we have no control over this!

Estonia U21 78 - 74 Scotland U21 (83304) LOSS

In our first competitive game we welcomed Estonia.

We kept the game close right up to the final moments against a strong team and ultimately Estonia were able to rely on better depth to steal the win as our bench performed poorly but it was an encouraging performance despite the narrow defeat.

Scotland U21 89 - 96 Cyrpus U21 (83343) LOSS

We then travelled to Cyprus hoping to win against a similar level opponent. It looked so promising for the majority of the game but we started to lose control in the 3rd quarter and eventually Cyprus managed to take the lead late in the 4th quarter and never looked back. A tough defeat to take given the match ratings where we outperformed the opponent.

South Africa U21 118 - 119 Scotland U21 (83421) WIN

This game had the makings of a classic since the first moments of the match and it certainly did not disappoint. The visitors decided to switch it up and went for an outside attack instead of their common Look Inside style.

SA were battering us early with a barrage of 3 point scores however their SF took a hard shot in the first quarter and the tide then seemed to turn as we battled back to tie the contest at the half. The second half was tightly contested but we always seemed to have an element of control in the match due to our offensive rebounding.

We had a poor night at the free throw line and it allowed SA to stay in touching distance of us. We managed to clutch it out and Jeffrey McCoist hit 2 clutch free throws to give us a 4 point lead with seconds remaining and it was so crucial as SA made a buzzer beater shot to narrow the deficit to a single point. It is great to win this match on equal effort against a stronger opponent.

After a poor performance off the bench last week that cost us vs Cyprus, Gorgeous George Aitken (54850680) had a night of redemption with 21 rebounds that were crucial to the victory. Extraordinary stuff!

Up next is Canada away. A difficult match against a team that has been performing well for a number of years.
