As the Stampeding Elephants approach the end of their first season in existence, they are preparing to make a drastic team change...to their name. As soon as Season 19 draws to a close the Stampeding Elephant name will cease to exist, and the team will come to be known as the "Sons of Vulcan." Team general manager, Matt Wood, explained the change at a recent press conference:
"After one season, we felt we needed a new attitude, and a new name to fit that attitude. This team is going to show more grit, toughness, and determination next season."
Wood also made sure to point out that this name has nothing to do with his love for Spock, Sarek, or any other characters from the classic Star Trek television program that he is deeply fond of. Instead, the name derives from an old iron-workers union that had a strong presence in the Bay View section of late-nineteenth century Milwaukee, the neighborhood that Wood calls home.
In other Elephant team news, high scoring, trouble stricken power forward, Gleb Galaburda was found not guilty of playing a role in a local prostitution ring. Unfortunately for Galaburda, just six hours after leaving the courtroom, he was pulled over in what the police called, "...your classic case of a professional athlete DUI."
