Charles Barkley Interiews Coach Wem of the Cutters

Chuck: "So tell me how you got that crazy name "Cutters"".

Coach Wem: " Well, Chuck, The Cutters are a group of folk from Bloomington Indiana. There was a motion picture about them. They were locals. Townies. Underdogs. Scrappers and bad boys. They didnt get the girls, didnt fit in with college and had to fight for their fame. Sorta like our team right now I would say. Great picture, you should check it out".

Chuck Barkley: "Oh.. I dunno about that. I more into mixed martial arts fights and girls gone wild type stuff". "Strippers, right on"? How are you guys feeling about Diw III"?

Coach Wem: "Well, first off, it was an honor to win in D4.62. Those guys are tough. We spent a lot of time in that league. It helped us and it hurt us, you know?. When you get stuck in a league, you just sorta look at the game from one dimension, and that really didnt help our player growth at all". "D3 is a whole new ball game. It feels like a new challenge, at times frustrating, but the team has to get better to compete, and that is why we are all here, right"?

Chuck Barkely: "Tell us about the new pickups".

Coach Wem: "Well, Montoya is really solid guy". "We really liked him as a person.. you know.. a family man, like yourself, Chuck" (the crowd laughs out loud, Chuck shrugs). "Most importantly, the guy can just flat out fill it up. He has really surprising defense skills as well." "Montoya has been a really solid influence on and off the court".

Chuck Barkley: "How bout the big fella"?

Coach Wem: "Well, Chuck, we got by, to an extent, with Raffie in the middle, and that was fine and dandy in D4". "We needed to add a go-to guy in the middle". "And.. well.. uh.. Gilley was a guy out there, on the market, and we knew he could fill a few gaps we had, mainly around rebounding".

Chuck Barkley: "Any, uh.. well.. concerns about his past and the addictions and arrests and things"?

Coach Wem: "Chuck.. Im here talking to your arent I"? (media laughs). "But in all seriousness, he.. well.. he.., he hit a bad spot in his life, and career I suppose, and.. we.. well.. felt like those times were behind him and he could make a solid comeback". "So far, he has been working really hard, and making good choices.. on the court.. and, uh... well... off the court as well".

Chuck Barkley: "Tell us a little about yourself, Coach".

Coach Wem: "Thanks, Chuck". "Well.. first off, I am a competitor". "Cant get enough". "Im a married guy, Chuck". " I am blessed with four wonderful sons". "My oldest helps me out with the team". "He watches the free agents, really likes the game". "I work hard, and play hard, too". "I really like to watch the games..chat.. hit the message boards". "Im a Pacers season ticket holder, really like them". "I like the Colts too, but I am honestly a Lions fan for football". "Graduated from Indiana U.". "I work in manufacturing, been doing it for years"..

Chuck Barkley: "Sorry to hear you are a Lions fan"... (media laughs). "Nice talking to you, Coach". "Best of luck".

Coach Wem: "Thanks, Chuck". "Take care".

I loved Breaking Away! If I remember right they called them cutters because there was a stone quarry in the town, which was the main source of employment for the townies.
